                              Hard Drivin'

Hard Drivin' is a new arcade conversion from Domark, it's very
similar to Stunt car racer, but when you start playing you discover
enough new things to keep you amused for at least a few minutes.
The track divides into two parts soon after the start and you can
choose to go for either the fast lane or the stunt track. You are
given a certain time to complete the round, and if you make that,
your timelimit is decreased and an other round starts. When you
complete a race within a given lap time limit you are challenged by
the Phantom Photon. If you win this race, another starts when the
Phantom will drive exactly the same as you drived your winning race.
You will, in other words, compete with yourself!
There have been some improvment compared to Stunt car, there are in
Hard drivin' many more cars, driving both ways. Several new obstacles
are included but since there's only two tracks, Stunt car still gives
you more for your money. More tracks will be released sometime in the
spring followed by a track editor, hopefully not to difficult to use.
The graphics is very fast considering the number of roadside objects
and other cars. There is also one big advantage in Hard drivin'
compared to Stunt car, when you crash into houses, other cars or the
ground you get an action replay of the whole event, this can be
highly amusing.
It lacks the fluent driving of Stunt car where you could drive at top
speed around the whole track if you were skillful enough. Here you
have too keep the speed limits or the car will most certainly glide
of the track or, if your are driving to fast into an obstacle like a
jump or the loop-the-loop, crash. The car in Hard drivin' isn't as
sturdy as the one in Stunt car, it breaks to easily. Sometimes you
will also notice some small bugs in the program when you suddenly can
see an other car right through the road. The sound f/x and music are
as usual quite bad but this goes for most of the current ST games.
I wish Stunt car had more traffics on it's lanes, it's actually quite
fun to crash into a truck whilst in the middle of the loop-the-loop,
but apart from that, Hard drivin' ain't hard 'nough for a modern
drivin' game.
