Character Spacing

Used to change the spacing  between characters, also known as 
tracking.  If the character  spacing field is unchanged(0.0). 
All  text  imported  or  typed in  will  automatically adjust 
their character space according  to type size. Once  field is 
set to a  positive  or  negative  number,  newly  imported or 
typed  in  text  will adjust  to  this fixed  character space 
setting. 

Character  spacing  will  not kern pair letters. Instead, the
entire word will adjust to the fixed  space  setting  entered
within value field.

To use:

Select text  frame, then   select  the "Select All"  function 
under the "Extras"  menu. The  entire text in that frame will 
be highlighted. Click  mouse pointer over "Character spacing"
text field and key in the  desired line  spacing. Negative or 
positive number characters(-,+) are only allowed in the first 
character field from the left. Calamus automatically defaults 
to a positive number setting of (0.0)  on startup.  Click  on
the  value  field  again  or  press  the return key to update
text in frame with new character spacing.
