Well So far all of uas looking for help, but I'll try to help with time is of
the essence, first. Press the button and then instantly slide left four spaces
and then forward one. I am able to do it with the mouse, you may find the
keyboard easier. Also make sure NONE of your characters is encumbered. Look at
the weight each is carrying, none of them should be yellow. If they are
yellow, your able to carry, but it slows you down, and you don't want to be
slowed at this point! Now, my request. I am STILL on the fourth level
(counting the hall of champs as 1). I found the shortcut and LOTS of worms, I
have used the shortcut and found an area enclosed by two doors. I understand I
am looking for a prisoner mummy that should be near the entrance to the next
level, but after many searches (and RESTORES!) I haven't been able to find it,
how about a detailed hint or three! Darlah, I think it is great that you were
willing and able to set this topic up so quickly. I really want to thank you
for doing this for us!!

I have heard many people talk about the regenerating monster areas to get
food and experience. So I started over to get some more food, so could I get
some precise directions on these areas. For instance should I leave the re
remains on the ground or pick them up? When I walk around afterwards should I
go to a new area or backtrack? Or doesn't any of this matter? Thanks,

ust finished "reading" all 339 messages to my capture buffer. The list reads
like an unorganized hint book for DM. It took me almost an hour on Genie to
capture it all at 1200 baud. I could upload the whole thing as an arc file
(faster to download and read) if nyone wants me to. I'll wait for a reply.
Also, is it true that uploads are free? Did you all know about the beautiful
maps (levels one to seven) available for downloading and printing? What a
help!! Thank you for all your help in cat 21 and on the maps. This is a
super game and having friends stumble through with you makes it even better.
Has anyone thought of a mass mailing of thank yous and encour [C [C [C [C

Good luck to you all in you wanderings. The PILGRIM.

I agree with you. It must be arced. All areas exceeding 100+ messages
will be arced this week if there is enough time. The largest will be
done 1st and then it will go by Category. I have no way of organizing
these messages, therefore it will be placed in the library as it exists.
Uploading on Genie is free. We will welcome anything you find the time
to share. Thank you for asking!!

TO A. HATTLESTAD: Well I tried to help you out, but 154 and 155 are not
references to the staff. 155 says "Wuuf is male..." 154 is in reference to a
level not directly associated to the firestaff. Please restate your question,
I don't want to get too specific if a nudge will help. To save you some
hassles now though... The door you see the firestaff through is not the
entrance to obtaining it, it's like a department store window, you can see but
not touch. Try another way in. Hope this helps. - Dan

To any of you who have Mon Masters or close to it, is there a big gap between
levels or does it move along fairly quickly? In other words, did you guys sit
there hacking at walls for 24 hours to get there or does take a more
reasonable amount of time.

Thanks,

Well, after finishing DM, I went out and bought Ultima IV. After about 3no
typo there) and a fair measure of success, I went back to DM. UIV was just
too boring. So thinking about those nice cool dungeons..... This time, I
reincarnated my whole cast so I'm REALLY starting from scratch. The first
mummy I met nearly wiped out my front line fighters! Just like old times!
Well, maybe we should start a Dungeon Masters Anonymous support gro? Yeah,
and if anyone is interested in buying an Ultima IV game cheap, just let me
know...

TO MELLARIC: The vorpal blades (crooked black swords) will kill puddle
monsters, a dispell spell will also do the trick. What I found to be the most
effective was to wait for one to rise up to attack, freeze him with one of the
magic boxes, and then do repeated stabs or thrusts with the vorpal blades
while my magic users threw in vollies of dispell spells. Actually it worked
quite well.

TO C.MULLER: The darc armor is on the same levelas those animated suits of
armor (the knights). There are a number of dead end alcoves, each one
contains a piece of the total suit. On a personal level I found it to be more
trouble than it was worth. It's so heavy that the character I placed it one
was always in the yellow zone of loaded even when he was only carrying the
armor and a sword. As you descend you'll find several areas where moving fast
could make the difference between life and death.

TO PIONEER: Yup, That's him! For all of you approaching level 12 there is a
wonderful weapon hidden in a corner room past the fire elementals and the fire
demons. I can't remember it's name but it throws fireballs. In the same niche
it lays in is a pendant called the "Hellion." Not quite sure what it was
supposed to do. Two turns after I picked the sucker up I fluxcaged Chaos and
finished the game.

What happened to those other guys who finished DM? Doesn't anyone want to
stick around and help? Sonya, Zed, Leyla, Gando, C'mon gang we're going back
in! Stay close together now. Oh no, Look out! - Dan

Maybe I'm overlooking it, but I can't find the file that--I think--Dave Flory
uploaded that was made up of the bulk of the messages from this topic. I'm
stuck on the "When is a rock..." level and wanted to look for hints. I've
gone through the wall, used the skeleton key to unlock the second set of
stairs and gone down umpteen levels to find the way blocked. I'm getting a
little frustrated, especially since this has been discussed at length before.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Help, I've gotten all the way down to the "Clockwise" level, gotten the neat
swords and skeleton key; what I can't do is get thru the three doors with
similar locks. Where are the keys to them (I've got one gold key and the
aforementioned skeleton)? Also, I can "find" the gold keyhole on the
clockwise level but have no key that fits it. Where is it? I've found two RA
keys bubut went ahead and opened the door and one force curtain. Did I do

Should I just hang around the lev landf (level and) wait for him to appear agai

PIONEER, I'm not sure about Chaos, But the IR key can be found in a secret passa
ge up on the Firestaff level. However, since you already have the staff and gem
you don't need the IR key at all. It just opens up another way into the Dragon
Level.

Pioneer - Clue me in if you finish, I'm about to take on the demons.

Mellaric - Are you at the cross doors? Or is that the place with all the behold
ers (floating eyes) and there is some clue to the effect that you have to move l
ike a snake to get there? SPeaking of which, did you know that the reason the
Aztecs (or was it Inca's?) carved the steps to their pyramids so narrowly was t
o force people to walk up them diagonally? the effect, when a line of people (p
riests or whatever) were climbing the steps, was that of a snake as the crossed

G.Henderson - the solution to the iron door room is easy - but so simple many mi
ss it - put something heavy on the florr where the teleport field appears - thro
w the switch, teleport field appears, moves the object to the pad in the corner
and viola! Door opens. As for the combination - I find that it changes - easiest
way to do it is to label each button with a letter and work through the combina
tions i.e. a B C D
                           BACD, etc.

PIONEER: Good approach! That's the way I did it and I finally got the sucker.
It locked up on me once also but I had saved recently and so rebooting was no pr
oblem. It's easier to kill Chaos if you don't have to avoid the fire elementals
and fire demons. On repeated forays I killed all of them and then went back fo
r the boss.

B.STAHL: Find the place in the hallway behind "When is a rock not a rock" where
you get turned around. The way to realize where this happens is to take a torc
h or other item (don't use a weapon, it causes lots of damage to you characters)
and throw it down the hallway in front of you. When you get to the right area
you'll find the torch boomerang right back at you. Pick it back up and continue
throwing to you get to a spot where it vanishes and the turn around while remain
ing on the same spot. The torch will ebe on the ground and you'll see a water f
ountain and a new hallway. To get back later reverse the process.

TO MELLARIC: Have you found the locked door with the chest behind it? If not ke
ep walking, that's where your first key goes. I have found it hhelps to drop ob
jects in the corners as you proceed to get an idea as to how far into clockwise
you are. Have patience!

TO PIONEER AGAIN: What do you mean no food?!? If you've killed the dragon ther
e's enough dragon steak lying around to last for months! - Dan

Also on the level below this what are those spagetti looking creatures that shoo

To the person asking about the cross keys, don't worry about the fact that you c

Hi there everyone, I seem to need some help on the "rock, not a rock", level.
First of all, is there any way you can go back through the wall you walk through
? or is it once you're through you can't go back. And secondly, I have gotten th
rough the "Snake Maze puzzle", and have gotten to these two doors which needs a
key to open one of them. (I am assuming you can only go through one of them beca
use of a sign that reads "Choose One", my question is what key do you need to op
en the door, and where can I find it. Also there was this room that you could o
pen up with a button, and in that room was about 5 giant rats, after killing the
m all, I searched the room only to find NOTHING!!!! I did discover that the gi
ant rats regenerate in this room so I keep that door closed.

R.W.Roy I only found 1 key. I saved the game and went through all of
the doors and then decided which one I wanted for real.

I finally won. It took me 3 hours to fuse Lord Chaos. What a flop endiing to a
great game. I killed all of the demons and tried to kill the fire elementals b
ut they kept coming back to life. I had LC surrounded by fluxcages 3 and fused
3 times but each time he escaped! I went into the fluxcage area each time to ma
ke sure that he was surrounded on 4 sides and he was. I finally got so mad that
I went out into the open are and went head to toe with him and fluxcaged everyw
here as fast as I could and then lucked out and fused him. Contrary to previous
messages I pinned him in a corner...2 walls and 2 fluxcage sides...strange beca
use it wasn't supposed to happen that way. End game gripes: I was looking for
ward to going back to level 11 (the knights/spiders) and havfinish it with the

uestions:

In the room off of the Ra key room-what does the green button do? In the section
of the darc armor area through the maze is a door and dead end. How do you get
through the door? Where is the skeleton key for level 11 and 12? Has anyone kil
led a knight by just fighting and not using a door or pit?

On killing the knights, I stood around the corner and just slid sideways back an
d forth and kept hit them. They hit once and a while but didn't come around the
corner. Also if you don't map I still recommend using the zokathra stuff as lit
tle markers at key intersections, to point you back to the nearest stairs. Does
anyone have maps done up for the last levels (beyond the first seven)? My wife
is mildly dyslexic and it is the only way she can play if I am at work. Thanx al

B.Stahl #20: If you've found the skeleton stairs the other stairs are
near them, right before the Ra Key room.

Capt. Cook #26: The snake message (and puzzle) is on the previous (zoom)
     level.

C. Muller #36: Where is the gold key hole on the clockwise level? Except
for the gold key hole in the beginning clockwise puzzle I don't have
any others marked on my map. Maybe I left it off. Tell me what it's
near and I'll try to help. Ditto if you want the exact location of
the Darc armor (on Knight/Spider level).

Riki #37 : The B key to the B locks is on the floor between the two locks.
If you want to explore both sides you can. Both passages lead to the
same area and both sides contain another B key (so there are 3 total).

Thud.Rooter #39 : I was in a place where the knights wouldn't advance
around a corner so I could duck in, hit, duck out and stayed there
for nearly an hour throwing all bombs, poison gas, fury and lightning
swords and spells at them and never did kill them. This is the pair
that travel together. The other 3 or so I managed to smash with doors
while chopping at and killed. I couldn't kill the pair though or
lure them past a certain point. Had to reboot and use the secret
passage around them. Maybe a bug in disk.

Thanks for the response Rick, I have already found the Darc and Lyte armor excep
t fo r the helms so unless you know the location of the helms I don't need help
with those.

As for the Gold keyhole the one you mentioned in the Clockwise area is exactly t
he one I'm talking about, I've tried all kinds of keys in that hole and none wor
ks, is it a red herring?

One other question, on level 12 (the Knight/Spider level) I've gotten the Topaz
key opened the grate on the other side and killed the other Knight. According t
o other messages I've read I should have found a Ra key somewhere, I don't see i
t and I've explored most of the level. Anyone know where the last Ra key is? Th
anks in advance.

R.W.Roy - there is only 1 tourquise key.

C.Muller - the key to the lock in clockwise is in clockwise, just keep experimen
ting going back and forth, I found that it took at least 2 corners to trigger an
y effect. Try starting from where it says clockwise on the wall, facing the wri
ting, turn right and walk 2 sides, then turn around and go back. You should have
changed it. Now try, for instance (since I don't remember) walking 2 sides to t
he right, and turn around and walk all the way around, then turnand walk 3 sides
... you get the idea - the key is in there somewhere, I ALMOST positve. Also, i
f you hit those spagetti critters with a strong dispel, it weakens their effects
on you. It's good practice ducking fireballs and poison spells! <grin>

RIKI - The key is right there on the ground, isn't it? It's one of those iron o
nes so its almost the same color as the floor, but as I remember, it was easily
available. Oh yeah, and you can pass back and forth through ...rock....
          -CC

PS: There are 4 ra keys, the third is on the knight level, go a bit deeper past
that knight that you let out from behind the gate - when you slew him, u should'
ve found a key, or else it's in the room he was in. One of these other people
should confirm this though, as I'm becoming quite scatterbrained when it comes t
o DM.

That green gem problem sure has stumped a lot of people. I just kept the green
gem, and thank you very much! This is what I did - 1st, I did not pullthe lever
so everything dropped through the floor. Second, I found a staircase nearby th
at went up into a small area, Third, I kilt me some bones, Fourth, I jumped do
wn a shaft, which took me to where the gem/chest was. Fifth, I pushed the green
button so that the grate rose in case I should need to go that way. Sixth, I t

Yes, there is a very easy way up to the firestaff level - up the skeleton key st
aircase. Above that, you gotta take a more mundane route.

To paraphrase Pioneer: " I WON!!!!
                                 I WON!!!
                                      I WON!!! "

And I only had to kill one of those fire demons! Old LC came out after me, and
immediately killed 2 of my characters. So, reset was on my mind, and I just sta
rted jumping around fluxcaging everywhere he went, and another character died.
Then I remembered the suggestion that I fluxcage the walls, so I did, and, with
my last character with probably 20 hit point left, I got the mother! The least
they could of done was resurrect my dead compatriots... oh well! Thank god its
over, now I can really get into UIV! Pioneer - you think maybe we're twins who
were seperated at birth? Lesse, I bought DM in December - not a bad value AT A
LL.

One thing I'd change, FTL, if you're lurking. I think you should speed up time
even more when characters are sleeping. That is about my only complaint. And i
ts a very minor one. ttfn -CC

Thanks for the reply C.Cook, I figured those spagetti creatures out already, and
as for the gold key hole on the "Clockwise" area I already know how to change i
t, I want to find a key that fits it. What I'm asking is if anyone has been able
to find a key that fits into that lock -- the gold lock in the "Clockwise" puzz
le, I think there's also some sort of sword or falchion there as well.

The magnifying glass is on the Scorpion/Wizard Eye level. If you've food the st
airs down to the next level, the magnifier is about 11 squares (on graph paper)
directly below them.

Downwards...

Ok here we go! One more time for luck. First, thanks for replying Capt.Cook b
ut everyone seems to be drawing the same incorrect conclusions on this question.
I HAVE ALREADY FOUND THE GATE THAT LEADS TO THE RTEST OF THE LEVEL AND THE KEY
THAT OPENS IT! I HAVE THE DIAMOND EDGED SWORD, THE FURY, THE LYTE ARMOR ETC. Wh
at I'm saying is there is a gold keyhole (just a keyhole no gate or door next to
it) which is on the wall on one of the clockwise areas. I have tried about 6 d
ifferent kinds of keys in this lock and none have opened it?!? DOES ANYONE ELSE
HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT? IT SEEMS SO CLEAR TO ME, BUT MAYBE I'M JU
ST CONFUSING YOU ALL. Please! someone tell me they have seen the gold key hole
on the clockwise level, so I know I'm not insane (you know the one for which the
re appears to be no key that fits). Has anyone found a key to fit in this one?
I even tried calling FTL and they kept saying the same thing everyone else is s
aying: keep walking around and changing directions and you'll get to the grate
with the chest behind it put the key in here, the grate will open and you'll be
on the next part oof the level. I KNOW THAT! but I want to find a key that open
s the gold lock not the grate, the gold lock is not even in the same area of the
clockwise as the grate leading to the rest of the level. When the gold key hol
e comes up there is a sword or falchion on the floor in front of where the word
"clockwise"\ used to be and the rings and writing on the wall disappear. HEELLP
P!

Oh, one other thing, can anyone tell me the location (as exact as possible of th
e darc helm) I have good maps so make any references you need to.

Thanks,

Chris.

The key to the door is through the blue mist. To get to it you must strip
your team down to almost nothing. Then time going through the mist, and press t
he button to open the grate. It will take a few tries. Then after the grate is
open, move two times through the mist again, you should be in the doorway. The
next blue mist is even quicker. I had to turn my party into nudist to be quick
enough to get through. Don`t worry, you wont need any weapons.
You should have the key to the other door after all that. After you open t
he other door and go through, the first door will open and stay open.

To C. Miller:
The key to the golden keyhole is in the chest behind the grate. The key ke
yhole open the wall behind the chest so if you have gotten all the stuff you li
sted, you must of inserted the key into the keyhole but have forgotten. (sorry t
hat's C Muller) To R.Williams:
The magnifying glass is on the level with the giant scorpiants in the room
with the button that activates a teleportation mist (close to the stairs down)\
The glass is almost the same color as the ground so it's easy to miss it. To Ri

I have a detailed map of the "Rock not a rock..." level so if you would des
cribe your surroundings I might be able to help you.

I guess I must be getting senile but I could swear I hadn't put a key in the gol

oss key doors? I was sure that's what I used the key in the chest for. Oh well
, it doesn't really matter now because......

 I WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!

I don't know what to do with myself now, DM makes other games dull by comparison
....oh well.

R.Williams: I left a very detailed explanation of where the magnifying glass is
about 5 or so messages ago, look for it.

Riki: It is possible to go back and forth between thru that wall you might be ge
tting confused as to where you really are do to the spinner in that area, but yo
u can get back thru that wall.

P.S.: Trapping the Lord of Chaos is great fun, but the ending was ok, but I woul
d have loved something similar to the ending for the ST version of Rogue. I was
really bummed that I had worked so hard to collect up all these items and I fin
ished the game relatively quickly, I didn't sit around and beat the wall and cas
t spells at the walls to get all master characters, I wish there was a scoring s
ystem ala Sun Dog (another awesome game by FTL) and credit for your items ala Ro
gue. Still this is THE BEST computer fantasy/RPG type computer game I've ever p
layed by leaps and bounds....

When is DM 2 coming out?

Just past the area where you find the torso plate behind the secret wall and the

To GEHENDERSON..... There are only 3 exits ofoff of the Zooooom plates. On
e is the transporter, one is the original entrance, and another is the exit....
Just keep zooooooming until you locate the exit! Be sure to turn your charact
ers while you're zoooming so you can zooom up different routes.... Whatever.

heeelp.....I have read all of the messages in this sig and still haven't located
 the answer to my question.
Where is the torso plate located on the zoooom level? Is it past the zoooo
m plates, or is it before? Someone has given me an answer saying that it is by
an area with a lot of gates, but I haven't been able to find this area. Also,
How do you open the gate before the zoooom level I had to use a key to open the
door next to the gate, but there is no keyhole to open the gate. And finally,
where do you put the green gem back? I have been carrying it around with me an
d have no idea what to do with it. I saw an answer saying 'think about where i
t came from', but I have no idea, what you mean. Is there something important
about the gem? because if not, I'll just pass it by since I am in the firestaff
 level.

                            thanks....Riki

To RIKI: as for tgem, you should have put it back in the chest where
it came from. As for the Torso plates, i there is one spot
where you can step thru the wall (remember "When is a rock..?)
This spot is near a button and a gate.... Sorry it's been a
while since I've been there... R.WILLIAMS12: Have you defeated the
dragon yet? Until you've done that
you can't fuse. As a matter of fact, exactly what level
                would you be at now?

MWADE - I too had to wait for Lord Chaos - but notice that the 'Fuse' option on
the firestaff is really a great big 'hurt non-material' spell! Go around and nuk
e all the fire elementals on the level with this option and Chaos will appear in
the remains of on e of the elementals. I won the game by surrounding the elemen
tal with fluxcages and then fusing them until they died, that way when Chaos app
ears he's already surrounded by some cages!

Hello fellow adventurers! I completed the game and have just finished checking o
ut this topic to find out about everything that I have missed! Thank you to ever
yone who shared information an experiences! I learned a lot!

Something happened in my endgame that no one else has mentioned. It seems to inv
olve an arcane bug in the program that turned out to be a great feature for me!

My crew was Daroou, Hissssa, Wulf and Tiggy. Tiggy was a big help at the beginni
ng of the adventure with her high mana, but as the crew descended her overall fr
ailness became a real hindrance. She needed more food than anyone else, and requ
ired a lot of stamina potions so she could maintain tthe pace of the other three
. Anyway, my band finally got to the big showdown with ol' Darkness. Well he jus
t ate us up! We weren't quick enough to both surround him and dodge his firework
s. After a brief melee ththe crew was huddled behind a post catching their breat
h. Tiggy had just grabbed a healing potion when you-know-who popped in and airma
iled a high octane fireball. It hit just as Tiggy gulped the potion. Everyone el
se was toast, but the simultaneous addition and subtraction of hit points appar
ently blew up Tiggy's counter, for her health bar shot to the top of her graph.
I sat at the keyboard for several moments, stunned by this sudden development. L
ord D was pitching his whole arsenal at her now with no apparent effect (health
bar was still topped out). So I woke up, and she went over to the bone pile and
picked up the firestaff. She then proceeded to tiptoe around her baffled and fru
strated opponent, locked him up and delivered him to oblivion. What a comic book
finish! The wimp comes through in the clutch after the champs have fallen! Wow!

So much for war stories. Something I noticed in repeated endgame encounters is t
hat the game seems to slow down a full party so that it is extremely difficult t
o outmanuever Lord D with everyone alive. Most account I have read here corrobor
ate my experience - no success until you're down to one survivor. I suspect that
this is a designed-in handicapping system to increase the drama of the last act
.

To Maude #80: In this level you come to a 4-way intersection with three doors le
ading off: They all take the same key, and all go to the same place. The only di
fference between them is the types of baddies lurking within. Just pick any door
; if the opposition is too tough, just restart and try your luck with another!

Prior to you contacting FTL I would offer the opinion that you don't have to hav

a saved game that you loaded and then ran. This implies to me that you should b
e able to boot DM and then "resume" the the mini-game.

GEHenderson: The "Puddle Monsters" (actually Water Elementals) can only be hit
by Vorpal Blades, as far as physical weapons are concerned. They have about 600
Health Points, so it'll take a while. Since they are slow, I generally drew the
m off into at least a 2x2 room, then "danced" around them, taking one or two blo
ws then moving to the side. Takes a little practice, but keeps them from ever hi
tting you, and you'll need to learn the technique for use against some much toug
her monsters later (such as a certain Dragon). Don't even bother with spells, e
xcept perhaps Protection, against the Water Elementals. They don't do that much
 damage to you anyway.

There is *no* water on the Purple Worm level. Your best bet is to go back up to
the previous level, go all the way down the long corridor, then go up the stair
s to level 2 -- there is a fountain just above the stairs. You will also find a
ll the water you could want if you survive to the next level after the Purple Wo

To J.D. Thomas: The term "spinner" comes from the map of level 9 by MJS and see
ms to be an invisible force field that turns you around and causes you to walk i
n the direction from which you came. I threw a minor spell at this area and the
"spell" was redirected back at me. I have no other name for this except "spinn
er"; As a point of refeerence, level nine, in this case, refers to the level wi
th the fireball cannons. The spinner is located after you walk through "when is
a rock not..." and turn right. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

To GALLAGHER: Kill that prisonerAnd the door in back will open.
However,be prepared for a few worms to come looking for lunch.

TO M.BARRY: Ahhhh. Ok. I see now (I think). I always recommend
using the "magic footprints" spell here. There seems to be 2 areas
here overlayed over one another and you gotta kind of toggle between
the areas. Also, note that when you initally enter thru the wall,
there are two green spots at the bottom of the walls opposite the
entry point. This helps to re-located the entry point to get back
to the "original" rat level. Does any of this makes sense?????
If it doesnt, let me know and I'll try to restate everything...

xcage the guy from all 4 sides and then fuse him. Now, a number of times I could
have sworn that I did just that ( particularly in the room with the two treasue
s in the NE corner where he tends not to go unless you open the door) and he suc
cessfully escaped. Finally, it worked. I don't know if he has extremely good r
eactions and can teleport out of a four sided fluxcage just before you fuse him
or if there is some trick that hasn't been posted or thought of by me. Anyway,
if you keep trying you will get him. Some general hints. First, get into that
corner room where you will find a neat fireball thrower. Then use the eye of t
ime from the dragon level (its easier logistically than magic boxes) and lots of
fireballs to kill off the demons while you hold them frozen. If Chaos shows up
fuse him to get rid of him. Rest up in the corner room with the doors closed w
hen necessary. Usually, he'll not bother you. Wipe out the fire elementals wit
h weaken non-material spells. Then go after him. Try not to stand with him fac
ing you and if things look grim fuse him and run away to regroup. One final gen
eral note in this long message: Version 1.2 has the sleep mode vastly speeded u
p. Looks like FTL not only makes great games but also listens to customer sugge
stions. Very impressive company. Best, Tristero.

Thanks for the help. I was running away after doing him in. When you do that t
hey release from both directions. You have no chance when the guys in back canno

O K, I'm stumped for the second time. Just past the I hate cowards area you pas
s through a door which closes begind you. The gate in front of you needs a key I
don't have, and a right turn presents a forcefield with gate, and I believe
another ff past that. I've downloaded MJS's maps and it shows a key back in thi
s room. Assuming I need this key, I can't figure out how to enter this room. I
can get the door open, and have thrown a few items through the field, landing in
the doorway. how do you enter this room?

The ff keeps throwing me backwards.

W.Gallagher1: We role-players call them "teleportals", not "forcefields". <grin
> Yes, you do need that key. It's all a question of timing, since there is the
TP screen, the door, and another TP screen. Go forward (assuming you've opened
the door first, perhaps with a spell, perhaps by aiming the mouse pointer *very
carefully*) precisely two squares, into the doorway, then do it again. You wan
t to time the move for just *before* the curtain disappears. It will take a few
attempts unless you're incredibly dexterous and/or lucky.

J.Reid2: I believe FTL uses the policy "We will sell no game before it's done."
Mini-scenario was scheduled for release this month, but I wouldn't expect it u
ntil April or May. They are using it as a test case for their scenario developm
ent toolkit, and as a way of documenting the scenario development process. This
will really help them come out with scenarios faster in the long run, but I wou
ld expect it to delay this one a little.

Question: Since the fluxcage acts around the perimeter of a square does one: 1)
cast a fluxcage from all four squares around Caos on the square caos is in and t
hen fuse him - being careful nto face him.... or 2) cast a fluxcage into the fou
r squares around caos and fuse him in the central (non flux'd) square..... or do
something else compeletely off the wall.....

Does anyone know how many flux cages can be active at once? I can tell they go a
way, but what's the maximum you can cast into different squares? Is the symptom
that the game has locked up that both the fire and spell shield "dashes" light u
p (as well as every thing locking up.) For notes: Using the firestaff under "inv
oke" results in a random spell coming out. I have seen dispell, fireball, and li
ghtening, and some unidentifiable "blue balls", strength of the spell seems rand
om too. As long as I'm on here, Can Caos go through walls? Some of the earlier m
essages seemed to indicate that he can, but some of the later ones indicate that
he can be trapped against a wall.

Thanks - I can hardly wait for the next mini-dungeon.

To M.BARRY: Well, you can use those magic boxes to freeze Puff and
let him have it, but I recommend holding onto those boxes for
the Demons.... What I did was to use one magic box to initially
freezthe dragon, and then use the same technique with the Purple
Worms of hacking from behind... It takes a little while and you
gotta keep on your toes, but you conserve resources...

My dragon fighting method was to race to one of the two posts in the room, and g
et it between myself and the beast. Once you have the dragon's attention, it wil
l always circle the post to try to reach you. So from this point I stood facing
the post until I could see which way old Snarly was going to circle, and then tu
rned to give him a hack or a spell as he came abreast of me, but before he could
turn and deliver an attack. Then I backed around the corner. This method is slo
w, but very safe if you keep alert. I was able to make the kill with no damage d
elivered by the dragon. By the way, this also works for the knights on Level 12;
I circled around the knight hutch in the large room.

I have a question...After I finished my first pass through the Dungeon, I went b

ng South from the Express Stairs (Firestaff Level to Dark Lord Level). The locat
ion is the landing on the "Turn Back" Level - The Ray reveals a one-section deep
room with a pair of Boots of Speed visible. :: Another mystery area is on the P
urple Worms Level. There appear to be a couple of two-section rooms in the NW co

I finally finished this afternoon! My group was comprised of Leif, Gothmog, Haw
k, and Sonja. The comments that I have to add are: 1. I trapped Lord Chaos in a
corner also (after chasing him all over that level for about 2 hours), fluxcage
d him on two sides and then fused him. Make sure that he is facing you when you
fuse him or the game will lock up. 2. The green gem can be used in place of the
magnifying glass at the "Enlarge my View" area of level 11. 3. In response to F
red P.'s question about secret rooms that he can't get to, some of those rooms a
re the bottom of pits from the previous level. 4.The endgame was a little to tou
gh I thought, and the actual ending was cute, but sort of a let down. Would hav
e been better iif the program saved your winning group onto your save disk. Oth
er than the ending I thought this was the best D&D type game that I have played
on any system. Good luck to those of you still swinging and spelling.

I have been wandering around the dungeon using a "post-Firestaff" Save, and disc
overed an amusing game feature that no one else has mentioned. WITH the Firestaf
f (but before the Power Gem) try to exit the Dungeon out the original entrance.

For those who are having trouble with the secret rooms on the Zooom level: The f
irst of the two secret rooms is accessed by hitting two wall buttons in the gene
ral area. If you look carefully, you will find them both. (You must hit the firs
t to reveal the second). Once you get to the armor, what now confronts you is NO
T a secret door, but a False Wall! That's right, you just walk right through it.

By the way, I don't think those speed boots on the Turn Back Level are at the bo
ttom of a pit; I went down all the ones I could find. Has anyone found them?

1. You need to get past the knights. The way I did it was to duck around that
corner and hack slash and duck back, heal up and do it again. Takes a while but
works. 2. The rock monsters are pretty tough but I found that the poison gas sp

In Dungeon Master there are a few secrets..If you want to play without
cheating stop right here..DO NOT READ ANY FARTHER ON THE FIRST LEVEL:
CAST YOUR INFLUNCE..You throw a 1/6 spell to open door then you throw a
object threw the door
LOCKED DOOR..BLUE SHIELD YOU SEE A CHEST: Find the door and strike it down
with your sword SECOND LEVEL:
After going downstairs face the left wall go 6 or 7 spaces and you will
find a switch opens secret panel where you will find a compass to use with
the Matrix room Vault room: remove coin and replace with something else door
will now stay open Time is of the Essense: push button and move very quickly
to get through fist passage way..push button turn around and throw something
through the blue field the pit will then close..push button and walk
backwards Chamber of the Guardians: push the button next to the chest until
the chest appears outside..In chest use the mirror of dawn to open secret
passage next to blue eye Level 4
Transporter Room: The way through to get to the room is a you land you turn
RIGHT..RIGHT..180..LEFT..180..RIGHT
Buttom Room: you push the button as they show up until you have pushed 5 of
them you may have to push them more than once..mark them as you push them so
that you can keep track
Neverending Room: Find the button on the wall push it..then go back to where
you came in the big room.turn left and follow the wall to get to the next
room
Pit Room: In the room to the left there are many secret room starting to
left by walking threw the wakk while facing the arm and wood shackles...there
are 3 secret rooms in all after entering On level 3 there is another staircase
that leads back to level 2 there is a room that has a closed gate in that
room you will find screamers that when you leave the room the door will close
and they will be reborn therefore a endless food supply Level 5
 Riddle room:
I am all- I am none: mirror of dawn
An arch but no back: bow
Hard as a rock..Blue as the sky..Twinkle in a woman eye: blue gem
A golden head but no body: gold coin
Midas room: you place a coin in the hole in the wall
Room with locked gate and no way to open it: Place a heavy object where the
Transporter appears and turn it on
After going through the locked door you will come across a room that is
locked and in it you will find a magical box as you leave you will see a ring
on the wall push it..you will open a secret passageway
Strength Hall: shoot a arrow or throw a dagger if it comes back try again if
not go around a corner and a gater will be open Level 7
The easist way to shut off the Fireballs is to drop down into the pits and
then drop into the next one and bring yourself back to the surface and walk
foward in front of you will be the shut off for the deflector and the
fireballs
 Level 8
When is a rock not a rock: when it is nothing
Step to the left one step and walk threw the wakk as you get through the
wall mark it so that you can find your way back
Also on that level there is a area in the hallway that spins you 180 degrees
so you end up going back where you came from. Use magical footprints or throw
things down the hallway when they come back you are there mark that area and
when you get there turn 180 as you get there
What is at your feet is overhead: you step on switches and fireball hit you
The easiest way is to put something on the switches as you get out of the
way of the fireballs..with something on the switches they will only fire once
and you can pass right threw..there are 6 floor switch 3 on both sides
What is lighter than air.. The corbomite you found earlier
Beware of my twisted fate: The room is set up like a snake you have to go
threw in a winding fashion
 Vooommm: 2 places to go
Clockwise room: go counterclockwise to get to all the different area of the
room you must start at the sign that says clockwise and move to a different
section by going counter clockwise
Poison Room: get the sword and stay where you are until the cloud clears
when the cloud clears step foward and kick off another trap and move back to
the clear area until out the door How to kill the Dragon:
Lead him back to the stairway you came down and then attck him with spells
and weapons..when you see a fireball coming run upstairs to safety
To get the power gem to merge with the firestaff you must ise the Zokthra
spell..a little advice have everything you wnat in the dragon area before you
do this for afterwords there is no way out Next to the power gem in the locked
room is a rebirthing chamber so save those coins it's the only way in What
kills the Creatures: As you get stronger in your wizard skills yopu will be
able to make stronger version of the same spell as the creatures show up they
each take a stronger version of the same potion and it may take more than one
to kill it
mummies..Weapons at first when you wizard skills are stronger
          fireballs
 Screamers: weapons..poison clouds..fireballs
 Blue meanies w/ clubs..Fireballs..weapons
 Rock creature..poison clouds
 Bees..fireballs

 Ghosts..Vorpal blade..yew staffs..staff of manar..non material
         being spell

 Wizard eyes..Fireballs
Rock thing in the Ra level..Catch them in a door and then use
                             your weapons
Theives: fireballs..when you chase after them beware they will
always lead you to a larger enemy
