               SampInfo v1.0 (30 Jan 2000)
               ---------------------------

This program is Freeware by Roger Burrows, Anodyne Software.
Distribute freely, but please keep this document with the program!

Introduction
------------
There are three formats commonly used for audio files on the Atari:
AIF, AVR, and WAV. Each format consists of a header, which describes
the audio parameters (e.g. mono/stereo, 8/16 bit, frequency), followed
by the actual audio data.

Function
--------
The purpose of this program is to display the audio parameters of
"standard" AIF/AVR/WAV files, that is files that are acceptable as
input to audio CD recording programs such as CDWRITER.PRG (part of
the CD Writer Plus package from Anodyne Software). The AIF and WAV
formats in particular can include segments other than digital samples,
for example midi sequences; such files will be rejected by this program
and audio CD recording programs as having an unknown or invalid format.

My apologies for the unsophisticated user interface (alert-ware) ...
but it _was_ written & tested in about 2 hours, and it _is_ free :-).

Supported file formats
----------------------
The input file can be ANY file, but audio parameters will only be
listed for "standard" AIF, AVR or WAV files (see comment above).

Usage
-----
After the program starts, it displays an introductory message and
then prompts for the input file name. After you enter it, the audio
parameters for that file will be listed in an alert box; or an error
message will be issued for an unknown file format. Clicking on OK
or pressing enter will produce a prompt for the next file, and so on.
To exit, click on the Cancel button in the file selector.
