OASIS 2 is Shareware, all the features described in this manual are
available within the version of the program supplied. After a short period
of usage however, certain features will stop working. To stop this from
happening, Register your copy of OASIS 2 by sending 30 UK pounds (UK
cheque, UK Postal Order, Euro Cheque, International Money Order etc.) to
the following address.

     Mr P. Yeadon
     29 Bolton Street,
     Reddish,
     Stockport,
     Cheshire,
     SK5 6BE,
     England

Anyone who registers will receive a program that will 'unlock' their
copy of OASIS 2 and will then receive free upgrades for version 2 whenever
they are available.
This registration fee covers the complete OASIS 2 package of
programs including OASIS 2, ICE, ICE_NET and OASISED2 and Spider (when it
is released).

                             ======<<>>======

Many people have been involved in the development of the OASIS 2
package besides the authors and their efforts should not go unmentioned..
The Beta testers (Colin Bernau, Daron Brewood, David Greenhough, Neil
Martin, Rod Keen, Gary Priest, Paul Baker, Frank Charlton and XXX) did a
thankless task. Hopefully they will still want to help out when Spider
gets to the Beta test stage!
Dag Dao has done a great job taking the Registrations from the
Scandanavian countries.
Frank Charlton has given OASIS and ICE superb coverage in his ST
Format pages.
Many other people have contributed by comments and various bug
reports over the months.
Many thanks to all the above people.

Finally, I would like to thank the authors of the following software,
we have used all of them while developing OASIS 2. If they didn't, we
couldn't!!!

     GFA Basic 3.6
     Interface
     Mydials
     Devpac TT
     Textstyle
     Pixart
     ST Guide
     Knife

     Section 1: Installation

     Section 1.1: Files

When you have run the OASIS206.TOS program from the root of the hard
drive partition you wish to install OASIS 2 on, you will see a folder
named OASIS2 containing the following folders and files.

INCOMING (News and E-Mail arrives here)
MAIL (Your E-Mail is stored here)

     WORLDLOW.RSC (ICE file)
     XRSRC.OVL

These files and folders should always be present in the OASIS2
folder. In addition to these items OASIS 2 can create other files. Please
take care if you delete any files from these folder.

In addition to these files there will be a folder named CONVERT on
your hard drive. This contains programs to convert OASIS 1.xx files to the
new OASIS 2 standards.

If you have never used OASIS before you can skip this next Section.

                             ======<<>>======

Section 1.2: Conversion of OASIS Files.

E-Mail; Copy all the files with the following extension .EML and
.MSH from the OASIS\SPOOL\MAIL folder to the OASIS2\MAIL folder. Now copy
the files with the extension .IDX to the CONVERT folder and run
MAILCONV.PRG. When this program has finished copy the files with the
extension .MIX to the OASIS2\MAIL folder.

News: Copy all the files from the OASIS\SPOOL\NEWS\NEWSBASE
folder to the OASIS2\NEWS\ARTICLES folder. Next copy the ACTIVE.DAT and
NNTP.DAT files from the OASIS\SPOOL\NEWS folder to the CONVERT folder and
run NEWSCON.PRG. When this program has finished there will be a new file
in the CONVERT folder called GROUPS, copy this file to the OASIS2\NEWS
folder.

Yellow Pages: Copy all the files with the extension .YEL from the
OASIS\SPOOL\MAIL folder to the CONVERT folder and run YELCONV.PRG. When
this program has finished, there will be files with the same name as the
original files but with the extension .YPG. Now copy all the files with
the extension .YPG from the CONVERT folder to the OASIS2\MAIL folder.

Multi-Users: No conversion of the OASIS Multi-User files is
needed, so simply copy all the files with the extension .MU from the OASIS
folder to the OASIS2\SYSTEM folder.

Once you have carried out all of the above tasks, run the UPGRADE.PRG
supplied with OASIS 2.10 and above to get all your files upto the latest
standard.

                             ======<<>>======

Section 1.3: Configuring OASIS 2 and ICE.

Please read the file ICE_NET.TXT from the OASIS2\SYSTEM\DOCS folder
and then run ICE_NET.PRG.

!!!! THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE YOU RUN OASIS 2 AND ICE !!!!

                             ======<<>>======

     Section 1.4: PGP

If you use PGP, OASIS 2 will allow you to send PGP encrypted text and
decode any PGP files that you receive by calling PGP for you. As PGP is a
TOS program (ie does not use windows) it can mess up the screen when OASIS
2 calls it.
To get around this problem there will be a file called TOS2GEM.ZIP on
your hard drive, unpack these files and install it as described in the
TOS2GEM documents.
If TOS2GEM is not installed, or another program has reserved it for
use before OASIS 2 was run, OASIS 2 will not be able to call PGP for you.
In this case refer to the documentation supplied with TOS2GEM.

OASIS 2 is now ready for use.

                --------==========<<<>>>==========--------

Section 2: Basic OASIS 2 Operation

     Section 2.1: Starting OASIS 2

OASIS 2 is run from the Desktop like any other program. OASIS 2 will
run on any version of TOS, under MagiC or from any replacement Desktops.
If for any reason OASIS 2 will not run check that all the files that
are listed above are in the OASIS2 folder and try again.
If OASIS2 will still not run, try running a 'clean' machine. This
means remove ALL Auto folder programs (do not delete them, just rename
them to *.PRX), and remove all Desk Accessories (again, do not delete
them, just rename them to *.ACX). Now try running OASIS2 again and
progressively add you Auto folder programs and Desk Accessories back into
your setup until you find the conflict.

If you only have 1Mb of memory or suffer 'Out Of Memory' errors, run
LOW_MEM.PRG, this will run OASIS 2 for you, but will exit OASIS 2 to run
ICE when you want to Logon to the Internet. When you exit ICE, OASIS 2
will automatically start again.

Once OASIS 2 has loaded it will check to see if you have NVDI 3 or
above or Speedo GDOS installed, if so it will find any scaleable fonts
you have ready for use.

After this the OASIS 2 desktop and Menus will appear. If you do have
Multi-Users setup, the OASIS 2 Item Selector will be displayed. Select a
User from the available list, if the User you select is the Sysop, you
will be asked for the Sysop's password (if there is one defined). If you
fail to enter the password correctly you will be returned to the desktop.

                             ======<<>>======

     Section 2.2 OASIS 2 Modes

OASIS 2 has five modes as follows:-

     Internet

     Post Box

     Daily Net

     Spider Logon

     Yellow Pages

Each of the modes can be accessed via the Mode Menu or by pressing
Alt and F1,2,3,4 or 5 respectively.

Across all of these modes there is a standard way of selecting items
and scrolling the windows.

You can scroll the windows by clicking on the scroll bar arrows,
clicking in the areas either side of the scroll bar or by dragging the
scroll bar with the mouse. Alternatively you can scroll the window
vertically by using the cursor keys, shift and the cursor keys scrolls the
window a full page at a time. All the windows within OASIS 2 can be sized
and fulled in the normal way.

The Info bar of OASIS main windows can contain a series of icons. The
three icons in use at present are 'Left Arrow', 'Right Arrow' and
'Exclamation Mark'. The two arrow icons perform the same function as the
cursor keys for that window. The 'Exclamation Mark' icon performs the same
function as the mouse right click inside the window.

Selecting items in the window is achieved by clicking on the item
with the mouse, multiple items can be selected in a variety of ways.
Holding down Shift and clicking on items will select each item in turn (or
deselect them). Selecting one item and then holding down Control and
selecting another item will select this item and all items in between.
Holding down Alternate and clicking on any item will select all items in
the window. You can deselect all items in the window by clicking anywhere
on the Desktop outside of any windows or by pressing the Undo key.

When you have an item selected in a window, you can change the
selected item using the left and right cursor keys. Also, the Clr Home key
will change the selected item to the top line of the window, shift and the
Clr Home key will change the selected item to the bottom line of the
window.

If you have ST-Guide installed pressing Help at any time will call up
the OASIS 2 manual at the relevant section.

One more key press that is available at all times is the Insert key,
pressing this key will bring up a dialog telling you the current user and
Internet Account selected. Clicking anywhere in this dialog or pressing
'Enter' to remove it.

You can change between the modes by clicking on an open window that
is not the top window, selecting the mode from the Mode Menu, or by
pressing Alt and F1 to 5.

All GEM dialogs within OASIS 2 appear in a window, this has been done
so that multi-tasking operating systems are not 'locked' when OASIS 2
displays a dialog. The close box on the dialog window always has the same
effect as the Cancel button in the current dialog.

The popup menus within OASIS are similar to standard Atari popup
menus. Select the popup itself to see the list of available items and
select the item you require. Alternatively select the 'rotaror' and the
available items rotate through the popup.
OASIS 2 employs two other types of popup menu, scrolling and multi
select. Scrolling popups work exactly the same as normal popups but have a
scroll bar at the right hand side allowing longer lists of items to be
selected from. Multi select popups allow more than one item to be selected
from a list, select the item syou want and then click on the 'Close Box'
that appears at the top left of the popup.

                             ======<<>>======

     Section 2.3 File Menu

Open File (Control O), This allows any text file to be edited using
the Editor you have selected to use. The File Selector appears and you can
then select a file you wish to edit.

                           --------------------

New File (Control N), this allows a new file to be created with the
Editor you can have selected to use. The File Selector appears and you can
then enter a new filename for editing,

                           --------------------

View File (Control V), this allows a text file to be viewed from
within OASIS 2. The File Selector appears and you can then select the text
file you wish to view. When you have finished viewing the file, just close
the window in the normal way. While the window is open you can select
another file by pressing Control V or selecting View from the File Menu.

                           --------------------

User (Control S), this allows you to select the current User from the
Item Selector. If the User selected is the Sysop you will be asked for the
Sysop's password if one has been set.

                           --------------------

Account (Control A), this allows you to select the current Internet
Account from a maximum of 10. All News and Mail created after you have
chosen an Account will contain the E-Mail address and details for this
Account.

                           --------------------

Edit User, this allows the Multi-User details to be edited, or new
ones created. The details that may be entered for a Multi-User are their
User ID, Name, Reply-To E-Mail address, Organisation Name and a Filename.
The filename is used for the User's Mailbox etc when their User name
is not unique or is not a legal filename. The three buttons across the top
of the dialog allow you to Delete or Add a User or Change which User's
details you are editing.

                           --------------------

Exit (Control Q), this exits OASIS 2. Just before you are returned to
the Desktop, OASIS 2 will save the read status the Daily Net and the Post
Box if their windows are open.

                             ======<<>>======

     Section 2.4 Options Menu

Edit Signature, this allows the current User's signature file to be
edited with your selected Editor. You can define separate signature files
for News and E-Mail. The signature file you will edit will depend upon
whether the Daily Net or the Post Box is the current mode.

                           --------------------

Toolbox (Control T or Right click anywhere on the Desktop), this
calls up the Toolbox which allows other programs to be run from within
OASIS 2. The top row of the Toolbox is taken up by the standard OASIS 2
programs and the Configure icon. These programs are the Editor, ICE,
Spider, ICE_NET, OASIS Coder and PGP.

To run a program from the Toolbox simply click on its icon, when you
exit this program, you will be returned to the Toolbox.

To exit the Toolbox, click on the Open Door icon in the bottom left
of the Toolbox or close the window.

To change the icons or add new programs to the Toolbox click on
the Configure icon in the top right of the Toolbox, the Toolbox
Configure dialog appears. Please note that only the Sysop can configure
the Toolbox.

This dialog contains space for the path and name of the
application, the icon selected for the application, two radio buttons
(Internal and External), and three buttons for Use, Save and Cancel.

When you enter the Configure dialog the first Icon definition
displayed is the Editor, by default this is the OASIS Editor so the
Internal Radio Button is selected. To change to another editor click
on the External Radio Button. The Select button is now enabled,
clicking on it calls up the File Selector. Select the Editor of your
choice in the normal way and click on OK. The Toolbox Configure
dialog now shows the path and name of the Editor you selected. To
change icons use the arrows either side of the Icon display in the top
left of the Configure dialog. When you are satisfied with the
selection click on either the Use or Save buttons. The Use button
defines the Toolbox for this session of OASIS 2 only, the Save button
stores the Toolbox settings in the OASIS2 directory.

To setup a new program use the arrows either side of the path
and application name until an empty slot appears, now use the Select
button to choose an application and select an icon for it. Click on
either the Save or Use Buttons when you have finished.

To remove a program from the Toolbox enter the Configure dialog
and use the arrows either side of the application name until the
program you wish to remove is displayed. Now use the arrows either side
of the Icon display until there is no Icon displayed. Now click on Save
or Use , the icon and program have now been removed from the Toolbox.

For PGP users item 6 in the Toolbox is dedicated to PGP. You must use
the Toolbox Configure dialog to select PGP so that OASIS 2 knows where to
find PGP when it needs it.

The icons used by the Toolbox are held in the file TOOLS_HI.RSC and
TOOLS_LO.RSC in the OASIS2\SYSTEM folder. You can edit these icons with a
standard Resource Editor. The HI Resource file contains both colour and
mono icons while the LO Resource file contains only mono icons. Please
take care if you edit these two files as any errors could effect the
operation of OASIS 2.

                           --------------------

MIME Tools. This Menu entry allows you to define the programs that
will be used by the MIME Post Box if you receive any pictures, sound
samples etc. OASIS 2 will try to use the MIME tools you specify for the
following MIME data types:- Application, Audio, Image and Video.
When you select this option a dialog appears with space for five
programs to be defined. For each program you can specify two file types,
the programs name and, if the program is an accessory, whether it can use
the 'AV Start' system.
To add a program to the MIME Toolbox, click on the middle of the
three boxes on a line. The File Selector will appear, select the program
or accessory in the normal way and click on OK. The tool name is then
added into the MIME toolbox. Now click on the box to the left of the
program name. You can now enter upto two file types. So if you want this
tool to be used to view GIF pictures, just type GIF. Finally, if the tool
you selected is an accessory and it supports 'AV Start' click on the AV
Start check box.
To remove a tool from the dialog click on the tool name, the File
Selector will appear, press Escape to clear the program name in the File
Selector and then click on OK. The tool will have been removed from the
MIME Toolbox.
To save the changes you have made click on the OK button.

                           --------------------

Binary, this Menu entry will change between Mail Binary and News
Binary depending upon whether the Daily Net or Post Box is the current
mode.
A dialog will appear with Encode already selected, the popup allows
you to select the maximum size of each News or Mail item. Single item will
encode the entire file you wish to send into one E-Mail or News posting.
This is important because some Internet providers limit the maximum size
of an E-Mail or News posting. All Binary News and Mail postings will
automatically use UUencoding.
The normal procedure for posting a new E-Mail or News item will then
follow. When you enter a Subject line, bear in mind that OASIS 2 will
automatically add part 1/2 or similar onto the end of your Subject.
Finally before the News or E-Mail items are created you will be asked
to select a file for encoding using the File Selector. OASIS 2 will then
encode this file creating a single News or E-Mail item or as many News or
E-Mail items as required for the maximum size selected.

                           --------------------

Batch FTP, this takes the download list you defined while online with
ICE and allows it to be E-Mailed to a batch FTP server.
The normal procedure for posting a new E-Mail item will take place,
except when your selected Editor is started the download list is copied
into the article so that you can add any special commands your Batch FTP
server requires. When you have saved the article, OASIS 2 will add the
required header but not your signature file.

                           --------------------

Extract (Control E), this allows text from most windows to be saved
to file. The File Selector appears and you can select a filename. If the
file already exists, you are given the option of either replacing it or
adding the new text to the end of the existing file.
If you have selected lines in a window, you will be given the option
to save the full article or just the selected lines.

                           --------------------

Print (Control P), this allows text from E-Mail items and News
articles to be sent to the printer. The output is sent to the printer
defined by the Control Panel or any other printer definition software, so
OASIS 2 requires no special printer drivers.
If you have selected lines in a window, you will be given the option
to print the full article or just the selected lines.

                           --------------------

Find (Control F) A dialog appears allowing you to enter the search
string. The search is case sensitive unless you select the 'TEST=Test'
check box in the top right of the dialog. Selecting Find will search for
the first occurrence of the string in the top window. If the search is
successful the item will be selected and the window display changed to
show this item. If the string is not found a dialog will appear stating
this.

Repeat Find (Control R) You can find the next occurrence of the
string by selecting Repeat Find from the Options Menu or reselecting Find
then Next from the dialog. If the search fails, a dialog appears stating
this.

The search string is remembered for each window of each mode, so you
can search for a particular Thread in a news group and the search for a
different string in the articles, when you return to the Threads display,
you can Repeat find for the original search string.

                           --------------------

Preferences, this allows the OASIS 2 default options and the Sysop
password to be changed. The Preferences dialog contains options for the
following items. There are three main areas to the Preference dialog, one
each for General, Daily Net and Post Box.

OASIS Desktop: This allows the OASIS 2 Desktop to be turned on or off.
This only takes effect from the next time you run OASIS 2.

UK Date Format: This allows the date format to be set to DD/MM/YY as used
in the UK or MM/DD/YY as used in Europe and America.

Scaleable Fonts: This tells OASIS 2 whether you want to use scaleable
     fonts or not.

Local Post News: This tells OASIS to upload your News articles, but not to
download them as they will be automatically added to the News
database. The article will only appear in the News group the next
time you Unbatch news. This makes the article appear to have been
downloaded with all the other News articles.

Read All Items: This tells the news reader whether you want to read only
the articles you have not read before, or all articles regardless of
whether you have read them previously or not. With this mode on and
viewing Threads, the left and right cursor keys will skip to the next
     thread with unread articles.

Auto Unbatch News: This tells OASIS 2 to automatically Unbatch any News
articles you have downloaded as soon as you exit ICE and OASIS 2 is
started again. If this option is left off you will have to select
Unbatch News from the Internet Menu.

News Bell: This option allows you to turn on or off the bell that sounds
when you reach the end of a News thread.

Auto Add Yellow Pages: This tells OASIS 2 to automatically add any E-Mail
addresses to your Yellow Pages from new E-Mails that you receive.

Show MIME E-Mails: This tells the OASIS 2 to automatically switch to the
MIME Post Box if you try to read a MIME E-Mail.

There are two editable fields at the bottom of the Preferences
dialog, Unbatch Size and File Defrag Period.

Unbatch Size: This tells Unbatch News to use a slower but less memory
intensixe method for any news group containing more than the defined
number of articles. This feature is currently NOT implemented in OASIS
2.10.

File Defrag Period: Over a period News and Mail files can become quite
large, these larger files can become fragmented on your Hard Drive.
This causes a problem for GEMDOS as it does not 'like' files split
into more than ten parts. OASIS can solve this problem by copying the
News or Mail file to a new file that will not be fragmented.
This field specifies the interval in days between 'OASIS Defrags'.
You can set any figure from -1 to 99 days, -1 specifies that no
'OASIS Defrags' will take place. An 'OASIS Defrag' only takes place
when you open the Daily Net or Post Box modes when the defined
interval has passed since the last 'OASIS Defrag'.

NOTE: An 'OASIS Defrag' does NOT access you hard drive in any way
that can cause problems to other programs or the operation of your
hard Drive. The 'OASIS Defrag' uses only legal GEMDOS system calls.

The final item in the Preferences dialog is the Password button. This
allows you to set the Sysop password. If you already have a password set
you must enter this before you are asked for a new password. If you do not
already have a password set you will just be asked for a new password.

                           --------------------

the text colour click on the pen icon. The colours will cycle through the
colours available (upto 16) in your screen resolution. The sample box in
the centre of the dialog will give you an idea of what your windows will
look like.
To change the font click on the font name displayed. A popup will
appear allowing a font to be selected from the full list available. You
can scroll the list using the vertical scroll bar to the right of the
popup. To exit the popup either select a font or click anywhere outside
the popup. You can also press Escape to exit the popup with out changing
the selected font. Clicking on the previously selected font at the top of
the popup will exit the popup with out changing the selected font.
To change the font size use the popup directly below the font name to
select between sizes from 12 to 20 points. 12 points is the same size as
the system font for your current resolution.
When you are changing the font details, a sample of the font at
selected size will be displayed in the sample window at the centre of the
dialog.

                           --------------------

rename the file *.OUT.

The second column contains either the words 'News' or 'Mail' to
indicate what the item is.

The third column can contain a variety of information. Usually this
area contains the Subject of the item and its Destination, either a News
group, an individual name or E-Mail address or a Mailshot name. If the
item is a reply to an E-Mail and the persons name is not known the E-Mail
address will be shown.

Section 4.1 The Post Box Window

When you select the Post Box Mode from the Mode Menu or press Alt F2,
the Post Box window will be opened. This window displays any E-Mail items
that are held in the User's Mailbox. If any new E-Mail has been downloaded
since you last opened the window, it will be added to each User's Mailbox
prior to the window opening.
If you have the Auto Add Yellow Pages item turned on in the Preferences dialog
OASIS 2 will scan through your Yellow Pages, if any of the new E-Mail
items were from people not in your Yellow Pages, a window will appear
listing them. To add any of these items to your Yellow Pages simply select
them with the mouse in the normal way. When you have selected all the
items you wish to add in, simply click on an already selected item, OASIS
2 will then add these items to your Yellow Pages and return you to the
Post Box. If you don't want to add any of the items to your Yellow Pages
just close the window.

There are four columns to this window:-

The first column displays the status of the E-Mail item. A Blank
indicates that you have not read the item. A Tick indicates that you have
read the item, an Arrow indicates that the item is marked for expire and
an 'A' shows that OASIS 2 has carried out an automatic action on the E-
Mail item.

The second column gives the name or E-Mail address of the person who
sent the item to you.

asked to select another Mailbox from the Item Selector. The E-Mail
item will be copied to the new Mailbox and marked for Expire in the
     original Mailbox.

Binary: This allows a UUencoded item to be decoded directly from the
Mailbox. You can decode multi-part UUencoded files by selecting each
item in order and using this option for each item.

A dialog will appear with Decode already selected and two popup menus
at the bottom of the dialog. The left most popup allows you to
specify if this E-Mail item is a Single File, the First File, a
Middle File or the Last File. The right most popup allows you to
     select between various decode methods.

If the mail item you are decoding is a single file, just click on OK
and the file will be decoded and put into the OASIS2\UUCODE folder.

OK, now select the next part, right click and select Binary again and
select Middle Part, keep going until you get to the last part, and
select Last Part, OASIS 2 will now decode all the files you selected

                             ======<<>>======

     Section 4.2 Viewing E-Mail Articles.

You can view any of these E-Mail items by selecting it and then
clicking on it again. This will call up the Post Box viewer, you can close
the viewer by clicking on the close box, pressing Escape or by using the
Left and Right cursor keys.

                             ======<<>>======

Section 4.3 Viewing MIME E-Mail Articles.

If you have the Show MIME option enabled, when you select an E-Mail
item from the Post Box which contains MIME information, OASIS 2 will
automatically switch to the MIME Post Box. This displays the E-Mail as a
single, or a series, of icons.
Each element of the MIME item is represented by an icon, there are
several types of MIME element.

Application: This is usually a file meant for use with a particular
program ie a word processor file. The icon for this element is a
     small window containing icons.

Audio: This is a sound sample. The icon for this element is a speaker with
two musical notes. MIME sound samples are assumed to be 8 bit mono
with a sample rate of 8KHz.

Image: This is a picture. The icon for this element is a picture of
Marilyn Monroe (honest!!). MIME images are either GIF or JPEG
     pictures.

Message: This is used for several types of information. There are three
types of Message element. The first is a standard E-Mail item. The
icon for this element is an envelope with a lightening flash through
it. The second Message element is External-Body used to pass
information about the location of a file somewhere on the Internet.
The icon for this element is a computer with an arrow pointing out of
it. The final Message element is Partial and is used to send large
files split over several E-Mail items. The icon for this element is a
sheet of paper cut off at top and bottom.

Multipart: This is a MIME item that is made up of several separate MIME
elements. There are four types of Multipart elements. The first is
Mixed ie the MIME item contains a variety of different MIME elements,
the icon for this element is a wad of paper with "1.2,3" written on
the front. The second type of Multipart is Digest, a series of E-
Mail items. The icon for this element is a single sheet of paper
folded over from a several others. The third type of Multipart is
Alternative, a series of MIME items all containing the same
information, but in different formats. The icon for this element is
the Ying Yang symbol. The final type of Multipart is Parallel, this
is a series of items that are meant to considered together. The icon
for this element is two horizontal lines.

Text: This is ordinary text. The icon for this element is a sheet of paper
     with writing on it.

Video: This is a video clip. The icon for this element is a piece of film.
MIME Video clips are MPEG files.

When OASIS 2 has decoded the MIME data the icon(s) for each element
will be displayed vertically down the left edge of the Post Box window. If
an element has more than one icon it is to inform you that the element is
part of a Multipart MIME item. If the MIME item belongs to a
Multipart/Parallel type, all the items will be displayed next to each
other across the screen.

To select an item simply click on it with the mouse, if the item
contains data a box will appear around the icon.

When you have selected an icon, there are two ways of getting at the
data. For a Text item you can simply click on the icon again and the text
is displayed in the MIME viewer. Clicking again on a non text item, or
right clicking on the window with an item selected will bring up a dialog
allowing you to select between Examining the MIME data, Extracting the
data to a file, or Action/View the item.

Examine: This shows the text and MIME headers exactly as they are
     contained in the E-Mail.

Extract: This writes the file to the OASIS2\UUCODE folder, if a filename
is specified in the MIME data, this file name will be used, if the
filename is illegal or none is given, the File Selector will appear
allowing you to specify a name.
Action/View: This will display the text or try to use the MIME tools
specified for a non text MIME item. If a MIME Tool is used, you will
be returned to the MIME viewer when you exit the Tool.

When you have finished viewing the MIME E-Mail or an individual MIME
item you can return to the Post Box or MIME Post Box by clicking on the
close box, pressing Escape or by using the Left and Right cursor keys.

If the MIME item is a Message/Partial ie a large MIME that has been
split into two or more smaller parts, OASIS 2 will search your Mailbox for
the other parts of this Message/Partial when you try to view one of the
items in the MIME.
If the other are present in your Mailbox OASIS 2 constructs a new E-
Mail item and adds it to your Mailbox, you will be immediately returned to
the Mailbox main display. The new E-Mail item has the phrase 'Auto MIME'
added to the end of the Subject. The smaller parts will be marked as
Expire.
OASIS 2 will let you know if it can not find the other parts of the
Message/Partial in your Mailbox.

                             ======<<>>======

the E-Mail is greater than the size specified.. You may also select
to send Circulation Copies (CC) of an E-Mail.

New Item: A dialog will appear containing a series of icons. The top

the dialog contains a tick and cross icon that are equivalent to OK
and Cancel buttons as well as a double arrow used for removing
selected items from the MIME. The final area at the bottom of the
dialog is where the items you have selected for your MIME are
displayed. The default item is a text item.
As you select items from the available MIME types their icons appear
in the bottom of the dialog. You can remove an item by clicking on
the double arrows icon. When you have finished constructing you MIME
E-Mail, click on the tick. To cancel sending a MIME E-Mail, click on

     signature.

If you have selected a maximum size for the MIME E-Mail, OASIS 2 will
automatically generate Partial MIMEs if the current MIME E-Mail is
     bigger than the specified size.

Reply To: If you have selected CC Copy you must first choose the copy
recipients from the Yellow Pages. You will be asked if you wish to

automatically generate Partial MIMEs if the current MIME E-Mail is
     bigger than the specified size.

Forward: This option works in exactly the same way as sending a New
E-Mail item, except the E-Mail item you are currently viewing or have
selected in the Post Box window will automatically be copied.

Mail To: This works in exactly the same way as New Item, except the
E-Mail address of the currently selected item in the Post Box will be
used. This allows you to send a new mail item to some one with a new
subject line without having to select their E-Mail address from the
     Yellow Pages.

your Yellow Pages and the third allows you to select the PGP
     encryption used for the Mailshot.

scan through your Yellow Pages, if any of the E-Mail items in the
Post Box were from people not in your Yellow Pages, a window will
appear listing them. To add any of these items to your Yellow Pages
simply select them with the mouse in the normal way. When you have
selected all the items you wish to add in, simply click on an already
selected item, OASIS 2 will then add these items to your Yellow Pages
and return you to the Post Box. If you don't want to add any of the
items to your Yellow Pages just close the window.

     Section 5 Daily Net.

Section 5.1 The Daily Net Window.

When you select the Daily Net Mode from the Mode Menu or press Alt
F3, the Daily Net window will be opened. This window displays any News
articles that are held in the News database.

There are three columns to this window:-

The first column is the number of articles still to be read in the
News group.

The second column is the total number of articles in the News group.

The third column is the name of the News group.

There are two special news groups in the Daily Net window,
OASIS.ARCHIVE and OASIS.NEWS.

OASIS.ARCHIVE: This group contains any articles you have archived
from the other news groups. The header of each article show the news group
that the article originated from in the X-Newsgroups line.

OASIS.NEWS: This group contains all the articles that you post to the
news groups. The header of each article shows the news groups the articles
was posted to in the X-Newsgroups line.

At any time on the Daily Net window a right click calls up a dialog
for the Daily Net options. The dialog contains six items in two groups,
the first group is All Articles and Unread. The second group consists of
Binary, PGP, Previous and Next.

All Articles/Unread: These items define whether you can view all
articles including the ones you have already read, or only the
articles that you have not read before.

Binary: This allows a UUencoded item to be decoded directly from the
Daily Net. You can decode multi-part UUencoded files by selecting
each item in order and using this option for each item.

A dialog will appear with Decode already selected and two popup menus
at the bottom of the dialog. The left most popup allows you to
specify if this News article is a Single File, the First File, a
Middle File or the Last File. The right most popup allows you to
     select between various decode methods.

If the news article you are decoding is a single file, just click on
OK and the file will be decoded and put into the OASIS2\UUCODE
     folder.

If you are decoding a multi part file, select First Part and click on
OK, now select the next part, right click and select Binary again and
select Middle Part, keep going until you get to the last part, and
select Last Part, OASIS 2 will now decode all the files you selected

PGP: This will decode a PGP News article and display it in the
Viewer, the file will not be saved to disk to maintain the security
of the News article. This option will also check the signature on a
     News article.

Archive Item: This allows you to save the current article or articles
from the currently selected thread in the OASIS.ARCHIVE news group.
If you archive a thread, the articles that will be archived is
determined by the All Items/Unread selection.

Show Tree: This allows the relationships between News Articles to be
displayed when you select a Subject from within a News Group. This
relationship is based upon the Message-IDs and References quoted in
the News article headers and allows you to see the way a Subject has
developed from the first posting. This option works for both Articles
     and Headers.

When the tree is displayed, each News article is represented by a
rounded box, with the links shown as lines between News articles.
Articles are displayed as shaded boxes while Headers are displayed as
hollow boxes. Any box with a cross drawn over it has either been
read, or if it is a header, selected for downloading.

You can read any of the articles by selecting it with the mouse or
use the cursor keys and press Enter to view the selected article. The
cursor keys will only allow you to move along a 'branch' of the tree.

                             ======<<>>======

     Section 5.2 Viewing News Articles.

When you select a News group and then click on it again the window
changes to show a list of the Subjects in a News group. The same layout is
used as before with columns for the number of articles to read, the total
number of articles for a Subject and the Subject name.
Select a Subject title and then click on it again, the window changes
to the News article viewer. If you have selected Unread only from the News
Action dialog and the Subject has no articles left to read the window will
not change. If you use the Left and Right cursor keys to change the
selected article with Unread Only selected the selected item will jump to
the next or previous item with articles to read.
You can force the selected item to be the top item in the window by
pressing the Clr Home key. Shift and Clr Home will force the selected item
to the bottom item of the window
If you have selected 'Show Tree' from the News Action dialog the
Subject's Tree will be displayed. From this Tree you can select any of the
articles with the mouse or the Cursor keys and press Enter to view the
selected article.
If you have selected 'Show Mime' from the News Action dialog, any
news articles posted using the MIME system will be displayed inexactly the
same way as the Post Box displays MIMEs.
NB MIMEs are not a 'legal' format for Internet News Articles, they
appear because of 'naughty' PC software or because of people using re-
mailers to send News Articles anonymously.
To return to the list of Subjects close the window or press Escape.
To change to the next article under the Subject heading press the Right
cursor key, you can also get to the previous article by pressing the Left
cursor key.
If you are viewing the articles with 'Show Tree' selected from the
News Action dialog, the Cursor keys will show the article related the the
one you are currently viewing. If no other article is related to the
current article you will be returned to the Subject's Tree.

dialog, there is a Select button in the bottom left of the dialog,

window you can stop the Post Message function by either selecting the
Post Message menu item (which will be ticked) again or closing the
window. The Daily Net window will return to the window you were

how each News group will be managed. There are 10 parameters that
define a News group. Only the Sysop can access the Group Details
     function.

Account: This is the Account that the News group being edited is
active for. A News group may only be active for one Account at a
time, this is to stop the same News articles being downloaded more
     than once.

Expire Time: This is the amount of time in days an article will stay
in the News database before you can expire it. For example, if the
Expire Time is set to 1 day and you Expire a News group at 6PM on a
Wednesday any articles that were downloaded before 6PM Tuesday will
     be expired.

Interval: this is the number of days ICE will leave between downloads
of articles for this News group. For example, if the Interval is set
to 2 days and you download articles at 6PM on Monday, ICE will not
download articles until after 6PM on Wednesday for this News group.

Last Access Date and Time: These two items are the date and time ICE
last downloaded articles for this News group. So the next time ICE
would download articles for this group is the Last Access Date and
Time plus the Interval time. These fields are only active if the News
Download Type for the Account the News group is active in is set to
Date in the ICE.NET file. These times are displayed as local date and
time, but are stored as GMT for ICE.

Last Article No.: This is the last article by reference number that
was downloaded for this News group. This field is only active if the
News Download Type for the Account the News group is active in is set
to Number in the ICE.NET file.

There are four popups at the bottom of the Group Details dialog, the
top left popup defines the Owner of the News group. The top right
popup defines the News group Status. The bottom left popup defines
the Censorship of a News group while the bottom right popup defines
the Protection of a News group.

Owner: this allows the Owner of the News group to be changed between
Sysop and Multi-User. If the Owner is set to Sysop, only the Sysop
can Expire, Mark As Read or Re-Index the News group, if the Owner is
set to Multi, any User can carry out these functions.

Status: this allows the Status of a News group to be set to Articles,
     Headers, All Headers or Inactive.

Articles: This is the normal setting for News groups and ICE will
always download the News articles since the Last Access Date and Time
     for this group.

Headers: This tells ICE to only download the Subject line of each
News article since the Last Access Date and Time so that you can
select which articles you want to download.

All Headers: This tells ICE to download ALL the Subject lines for the
News group that are held by the News Server you download from.

Inactive: This stops ICE from downloading ANY articles or Subject
lines for this News group. The Junk News group is always set to
     Inactive.

Censorship: this allows a News group to be restricted to Sysop access
only, the Multi-Users will not be able to access this News group in
     any way.

Protection: this allows the news group to be set to Guarded so that
NO articles can ever be expired from it.

                           --------------------

News Action (Alt A): This calls up the options dialog as if you right
     clicked on the window.

                           --------------------

Add Group (Alt A): This allows a new News group to be added to the list of
groups for each User. The Sysop can select from the full list of News
groups available on the Internet, while the Multi-Users can only
select from the list of groups the Sysop maintains. If the Sysop has
marked any groups as Censored, the Multi-Users cannot select these
groups from the Sysop's list of News groups.

A dialog appears asking you to enter a News group name, you can
either enter the name or click on Select to choose from the full list
     of groups available to you.

                           --------------------

Remove Group (Alt R): This allows you to remove a News group from your
current list. You are prompted to select a group from your current
list. If the Sysop removes a group from his list, it is automatically
removed from any Multi-Users list of groups as well.

                           --------------------

Add To Pages (Alt Y): This allows you to add the E-Mail address and name
from the News article you are currently viewing to your Yellow Pages.
If the name and address are already present in the Yellow Pages, they
     will not be duplicated.

The Yellow Pages editor dialog will appear so that you can check the
details of the E-Mail address you are about to add to the Yellow
Pages, this gives you the chance to set any Mailshots and add a
     comment.

Normal, Ignore or Kill. This allows you to define whether any News
articles from that person are passed straight to the News database
(Normal), placed in the Junk News group (Ignore) or not added to the News
database at all (Kill). Only the Sysop can mark an E-Mail address as Kill.

The PGP Key check box allows you to keep a record of which people you
possess a PGP public key for. At this time OASIS 2 makes no use of this
information.

When you are happy with the details for a person, click on OK. If you
have not entered a valid E-Mail address, the dialog will reappear.

The Yellow Pages is sorted alphabetically on peoples surnames, so
