EXTRA KEYS IN THIS VERSION:
---------------------------
Control D - quit to desktop
Control 1 - 9 - save memory snapshot #1 - #9
Control F1 - F9 - load memory snapshot #1 - #9

Hidden keys on the Klaz intro text screen:
H - toggle 50/60Hz (on Mega/ST/E)
L - toggle internal speaker on/off (on Falcon/TT)

Please see below for original game controls.

NOTE:
-----
- The high scores will be saved on quitting to the desktop. They won't be
saved when you abort the game by pushing reset (or if you decide to
  cheat).

TRAINER OPTIONS:
----------------
- Infinite shileds

- If you're running at 16MHz or faster, there will be a second option,
  called "Faster gameplay".
This will make the game run a bit faster (about 20% at average), but will
also be a bit more difficult to play.
Note: I had hoped that the game, being vector based, would have had
implemented a proper frame rate management like you find it with modern
3D games, but unfortunately it would just speed up on fast machines and
become plain unplayable. Ok, perhaps I had expected too much from a game
that originated in the year 1987. ;-)

MEMORY SNAPSHOTS:
-----------------
Memory snapshots can be saved/loaded any time. There may be a short delay
until saving/loading actually starts when the program is busy loading or
unpacking data.

STAR WARS - MANUAL
==================

INTRODUCTION:
-------------
This game is the official home computer version of the famous Atari Star
Wars coin-op. It is an interactive action game for one player.

THE GAME STRUCTURE:
-------------------
You take the place of Luke Skywalker, steering your X-Fighter space ship
from one attack wave to another, in order to eliminate the Death Star.

Each attack wave consists of three sequences:

Sequence 1 - Dogfight in deep space
Approaching the Death Star, you must shoot down the defending Empire's Tie-
Fighters, while avoiding their deadly missiles.

Sequence 2 - Through the towers
After reaching the Death Star's surface, you have to survive the attack of
various laser towers, which grow up from the ground.

Sequence 3 - Down the trench
At last, you dive into the trench searching for your final aim: the exhaust
port. Hitting the exhaust port causes the Death Star to explode, and your
mission has ended successfully.

At the beginning, you start out with a number of shield points. Each hit
with an enemy missile or a collision with a Tie-Fighter, a laser tower or a
laser barrier will decrement the shield strength by one point. At the end
of each wave, you will get extra shield points and bonus points for each
remaining shield.

If you lose all your shield points, your X-Fighter explodes and the game is
finished.

SCORING:
--------
Hitting and destroying the various targets increments your score during the
play. Here is a list of the different values:

Missile 33 points
Tie-Fighter 1,000 points
Laser tower 200 points
Destroying all towers 50,000 points
Trench turret 100 points
Exhaust port 25,000 points

The ten best players are recorded in the high score list.

CHOOSING THE LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY:
---------------------------------
At the very start of each new game, you have the possibility between
starting at wave 1, 3 or 5, with a different score bonus of 0, 400,000
or 800,000 points, which will be added to your score when you manage to
complete a wave. Beginners are recommneded to start at wave 1.

To choose the starting wave you simply point with your cursor at the
appropriate icon and press the fire button.

CONTROLS:
---------
Your space ship will be steered by moving the mouse (or the joystick). The
lasers of your X-Fighter are fired by pressing a mouse button (or the
joystick fire button).

KEYS that are available while playing:

F1 - switch to mouse control (default)
F2 - switch to joystick control
F3 - reverse Y axis
SPACE - pause/resume game

Please launch the game and consult the introductory screens for some more
information.
