    WORLD DARTS - INSTRUCTIONS
    ==========================

    GENERAL
    -------

Darts is the classic game of English pubs, now growing in popularity
around the world. We have provided the standard world championship game
complete with a full range of eight world class opponents.

The object is to score 501 points by throwing darts at a numbered
board. Players take turns, each turn is three darts. The board is
numbered in segments from 1 to 20, there is a double ring around the
outside and a triple ring about half way out. In the very centre there
is the bullseye, scoring 25 and 50.

The maximum score with three darts is 180 - three treble twenties, a
number now infamous. Just to make life harder you need to finish by
scoring a double, the inner bull counts as a double twenty-five.

Matches are played over a series of legs. Normally the players take in
turns to throw first. To give you some chance, we have let you take the
    darts first in every game.

    CONTROLLING THE THROW
    ---------------------

Whilst you take your shots, the screen shows your hand holding the
dart, the board and an automatic blackboard for chalking the score -
the pros may have flashing lights but this is a traditional pub.

At the start of each turn the announcer will come on and call out who
is to throw. When he has gone a hand holding a dart appears. This can
be moved around the screen, bouncing off the sides. You can control it
with the joystick. There is a minimum speed at which the hand will
move, you never can hold it completely still. When the hand is in the
right position press fire to throw the dart.

The controls may feel odd at first, but practice makes perfect, just as
    in the real game.

After your three shots the computer chalks up your score, showing how
many points you have left to score, starting at 501 and counting down.
It will then switch to an animated screen while your opponent throws.
There is nothing to do but wait, look around and perhaps weep into your
    beer!

When you start a new game you will enter the quarter final stage of a
major competition. You have to play and win three games to claim the
title. There is a rogue's gallery of eight tough professionals for you
to beat. They are all different, wih individual styles of play, and you
never know - they might be off form, or red hot!
