Notes for KXP_2123.IDA
----------------------

With the possibility of saving a lot of paper by using small fonts I never-
theless wanted to achieve an easily readable, fatigue-free typeface. To me
this only seemed possible with a proportional font. I therefore read the
relevant parts of the handbook very carefully, and tried to transform its
description into usable results.

I believe that I have succeeded passably well. I have used the SANS SERIF
font for it that, thanks to its clear lines, is easy on the eye and remains
clearly readable even in the proportional compressed mode at 23 cpi.

One problem arises:

Due to the order of the commands, made worse by the fact that for chain mode
printing no printer initialisation is performed, one has to use the Joker to
control the Proportional mode. Since however Proportional also automatically
switches on the LQ mode, printing will be performed in LQ even if the 'High
quality' check-box is switched off.

Furthermore, since the Compressed mode (after using radio-button 4) will not
be re-set in chain mode as long as one continues printing in LQ (again this
is a problem of the order in which the commands are sent) one can sometimes
obtain unexpected results when changing type sizes.

I have not found a fool-proof solution for this, so every user will have to
take care that he uses the Proportional joker correctly. I have included an
explicit reference to this in the introductory header of the IDA-file. Those
who find this too difficult will have to change the driver or create one for
himself.

If anyone has found another way, I would be pleased if they got in touch for
an exhange of views.
