Installation instructions and quickstart for Junior Office
==========================================================

[Translated from German to English by Paul Moss, April 1995]

1. Hard-disk or Floppy Disk ?
-------------------------------

The Installation of the Fax software Junior Office assumes that a
Hard-disk exists.

Floppy Disk operation is not possible with this Version.

2. Installation on Hard-disk
--------------------------------

Our Fax software Junior Office is supplied in packed form for expansion
onto a Hard Disk.

In order to minimize errors, it is assumed that Junior Office will be
installed on Partition C: (the boot partition) and it is for this setup
that our version has been preconfigured. Installation is possible upon
other partitions, but work will have to be done as this is not the way
that we have preconfigured the paths etc. For more details on installing
Junior Office on another partition, see section 2.2 of the quickstart
instructions.

In order to install Junior Office, 2MB of disk space is required. After
the installation has been completed, Junior Office will take up about
1Mb. Please note that in order to send and receive (and store) faxes that
further space will be required.

Copy the installation file "TKR_FAX.TOS" onto the root partition of your
Hard-disk (C:)and run the program by double clicking.

The archive file unpacks itself and creates the folder <OFFICE> in order
to contain the program and data files for Junior Office. In here you will
also find shareware drivers for use with 1st Word Plus and Wordperfect.

Follwing this procedure will mean that after installation the file
HANDBUCH.TXT will be found and this may be loaded into any editor or
word processing program for inspection. It is highly recommended that
these instructions are read.

In addition, the installation on the root partition will also install
the program "FAXDRV.ACC". This is the faxdriver for Junior Office used
for the transmission and reception of faxes with Class-2 compatible
Modems (all TKR modems).

On your hard disk is also the program AMC-GDOS (Version 6.0), placed in
the AUTO folder, which is necessary for the printing of Faxes. Also the
folder <GEMSYS> contains the printer drivers. The particular driver in
use is specified in the file ASSIGN.SYS. If you already posess a GDOS
driver (ie NVDI or Speedo-GDOS) then you can delete AMC-GDOS from your
AUTO folder after installation is complete.

Additionally, the installation procedure will copy the program
RS232ENC.PRG into your AUTO folder. This is a patch for the serial port,
and if you already use a patch program (ie HSMODEM etc), then this too
may be deleted following installation. Falcon owners *MUST* delete this
program and instead use the program FPATCH2.PRG from the folder
C:\OFFICE\FALCON.030.

If you already possess an ASSIGN.SYS file then the program will ask you,
during installation, whether it should be overwritten.

Following installation, the file TKR_FAX.TOS may be deleted.

2.1 The Time
------------

In order to set the fields correctly it is necessary to have the clock
set to the correct time and date (helps keep things in order!). If this
is not done then Junior Office will use the filename and creation date.

If the 520 or 1040 does not possess a hardware clock (ie on the hard disk
controller or cartridge port) then the time and date will have to be set
every time that the computer is switched on. A program has been supplied
in the folder \OFFICE\CLOCK in order to do this. It is a small pd program
which you should copy into your AUTO folder and this will request the
date and time at boot-up.

2.2 Installation on different Partitions of the Hard-disk
---------------------------------------------------------

If you wish to install Junior Office on a partition other than C:\ then
this is indeed possible. You must install portions by hand amd amend
some paths appropriately.

Copy the file TKR_FAX.TOS to the desired partition on your hard disk and
start it by double clicking. NB do NOT copy it into a folder first, as
the folder it creates, OFFICE, MUST be at the top level of your partition.
Otherwise, it will not correctly set and recognise paths etc. (It will
ALWAYS abort with the alert described below).

Section 2.1 describes successful installation. Following this you may
delete the file TKR_FAX.TOS.

Now you must copy the following files:

- RS232ENC.PRG from the Folder "AUTO" into the Auto folder on your
Boot partition. This you can ignore if you already possess such a
     patch program.

- AMCGDOS.PRG from the Folder "AUTO" into the Auto folder on your
Boot partition. Again, this you can ignore if you possess another
GDOS program such as NVDI or Speedo-GDOS.

- The complete folder "GEMSYS" onto the Boot partition. If this
Folder already exists, then you need only copy the printer drivers
     into it.

- The Program "FAXDRV.ACC" onto the Boot partition. This is the
Faxdriver for Junior Office and MUST be loaded.

After the next Boot the computer must write the amended paths:

- Hold down the CONTROL key and click on the entry "Faxdriver" in
the accessories list ("Faxtreiber"). Instead of the normal box,
an alert box will appear. The text in it says

"Es ist kein pfad fur Tele- bzw. Junior Office definiert!
Bitte tun sie dies mit dem folgenden Dateiauswohl-Dialog!"

     and this means roughly:

"There is no path defined for Tele- that is Junior Office.
Please fix this with the following file selector box."

- Select the path to the folder \OFFICE so that the folders for
SYSTEM, FAXE.IN, FAXE.OUT and MTX can be seen. Click on OK.

- An alert box appears saying:

"Wenn sie den office-pfad abspeichern mochten, wahlen Sei
mit der Dateiauswahl das FAXDRV.PRG bzw. ACC aus und drucken
        >>OK<<"

     This means roughly:

"When you choose the path select FAXDRV.PRG or rather the ACC
        and then press OK."

- Select the FAXDRV.ACC on your boot partition and click on OK.
This stores the correct path within the ACC.

- A similar procedure must now be followed for the program itself.
Hold down the CONTROL key and invoke J_OFFICE.PRG. An identical
alert will say that paths have yet to be defined. Click on OK.
When the fileselector appears, it should already be in the right
directory (SYSTEM, FAXE.IN, FAXE.OUT, MTX visible) - so just click
OK. The second dialogue will appear, asking you where the file
in which this information should be stored is located. As the file
is J_OFFICE.PRG, click on it and thn on OK.

- Unlike the ACC, an alert (the one that always appears until
the paths have been correctly defined) will now be displayed.
     It says

        "Es wurden keine module gefunden!"

     Which means roughly

        "I cannot find any modules"

Simply click on Abort ("Abbruch") and the program will exit.

- Having successfully installed the path, rerun the program. It
should now run without displaying the alert mentioned above.
Three menu items will be visible. OFFICE (should really be desk
if they follow GEM programming conventions!), Datei (Files),
     and Module.

- Under Module, select Configuration ("Konfiguration"). Then,
from the pop up menu that appears choose Files ("Dateien").
A dialogue box appears showing paths to Images, Text, a text
editor and a graphic editor. Click on the Images file name and
fileselector box will appear. Amend the path to point to the
appropriate directory. Do likewise for Text ("Texte"). Also
set the path to the supplied text editor, Everest, or one of
your choosing. Now click on OK.

- Save this path information by choosing Configuration again,
and selecting Save Configuration ("Konfig. Sichern"). When
the fileselector appears it will have the default path and
filename correctly set (OFFICE.TOC in OFFICE\SYSTEM) - so
     just click on OK.

2.3 The GDOS Printer driver
---------------------------

In order to print, GDOS must be installed correctly on your computer.
It may be necessaryto edit the ASSIGN.SYS file on your Boot partition.
If necessary you can use the supplied editor, Everest.

Find the line

        21 EPSON_9N.SYS

The value 21 is the GDOS-system name for the printer driver (in this
case it is for 9 pin epson printers). Replace this with the appropriate
driver for your printer.

After the Installation of Junior Office you will find the following in
the folder GEMSYS:

Driver:

EPSON_9N.SYS For Epson-compatible 9-Pin-Printer
EPSON_24.SYS For Epson-compatible 24-Pin-Printer
LASERJET.SYS For HP-Laserjet compatible Printer
NEC_P6.SYS For NEC-compatible Printer
SLM.SYS For Atari-Laserprinter

These printer drivers are only needed to print the contents or a report
about the transmission or reception of faxes. GDOS is not required in
order to send or receive faxes.

3. Quickstart
=============

This quickstart gives only a first Induction into the capabilities
and operation of the program Junior Office. Please read the full
instructions given in the handbook (HANDBUCH.TXT in the folder
\OFFICE) for further information.

3.1 Starting Junior Office
--------------------------

After the Installation and reboot it should be possible to start the
program "J_OFFICE.PRG" from the Folder "C:\OFFICE".

This Program is used purely for the layout of Telefaxes.

3.2 Layout of Telefaxes
-----------------------

Choose the menu item "Module/Fax Layout". This will open the Layout
Window, into which text and IMG format images may be placed.

Selecting an Icon from A to I will cause the fileselector box to
appear, allowing selection of the ASCII file for the Telefax. If
the filename does not exist then the default editor will be invoked
in order to create it.

After selection of the text file (or its creation from the editor) the
mouse pointer is used to move the frame representing the text. Clicking
the left mouse button will 'kay down' the text at this point.

Text can be joined to text already layed down in the window by pressing
the mouse button in the window.

Double-clicking on the frame that has been layed down allows the
text to be edited or deleted.

3.3 Selection of Adressee
-------------------------

Once you have finished the layout of the fax, click on the Icon that
represents a telephone. This will open a dialogue box for the number
to send the fax to (destination address). Choose a destination and
click on OK. A dialog box appears showing the receiving and transmitting
numbers (The value for the senders number is not changeable in Junior
Office).

After Clicking on "OK" in this dialogue box a picture representing the
transmission progress will then be displayed.

You can stop the reporting of progress once layout has been completed
by using the function "Fax report" ("Fax anzeigen") from the main menu.

3.4 Transmission of Telefaxes
-----------------------------

The transmission (and Reception) of Telefaxes to and from Junior Office
is acheived by the link with the Faxdriver (FAXDRV.ACC).

Call the Faxdriver by selecting its entry from the list of installed
accessories. Click the mouse on the field "forwarding disabled"
("Versand gesperrt"). The entry will change to read "forwarding
enabled" ("Versand freigegeben"). Now click on OK. This sets Junior
Office to begin transmission.

3.5 Further Information
-------------------------

For all further information and functions the user is referred to the
handbook (HANDBUCH.TXT in the folder \OFFICE). This is best viewed
using a text editor or word processor.

4. Error 20 or 28
=================

It may happen that at some time Junior Office reponds with a dialog box
saying "Error 20" ("Fehler 20") or "Error 28" ("Fehler 28").

This means that the selected data cannot be placed in the desired
area.

Possibly, therefore, this means that the folders "FAXE.OUT" or "TEMP"
in the folder "\OFFICE" do not exist - more likely, there is not
sufficient space on the partition where the \OFFICE folder is installed.
