Me and a friend are working on a small '030 system which will start
out as nothing but memory and an RS232 port.  Anyways... In the past
my friend had the Atari ST developers kit from way back and he used it
when he built his own small 68000 system.  He was able to use the Alcyon
C compiler to generate code for his system.  We'd like to be able to
generate '030 or at least '020 code on the ATari ST if possible.  Is a
cross compiler available.  Will the GNU C compiler do this... thanks...

not be very useful to those who can type VERY quick, but you did bring up
a good point - anyone having problems with their hands may find some use for
it.  And it would just be nice to be able to do everything without needing
to hit the keyboard.  If I could program on the ST, I'd do it myself.
 
  Here's how I was thinking it could be like:
 
a GEM window opens, and inside is a replica of the keyboard - just click on
the key to send the character as if you would have pressed the key itself.
this way you could access all the Function keys, etc as well.
 
  I dunno, it would be something novel, if nothing else...

While such a utility may be useful for people with disabilities, it
is just silly for anyone else.  Even if you are a bad typist, how
could you "poke keys" with a mouse pointer on a fascimile keyboard
any faster than you could poke real keys with your finger on a real
keyboard?  You still need to "hunt and peck" in the same inefficient
way.  If you are insistant on using the mouse for text input, at least
come up with an interface that is more suited to mouse movements than
finger motions.  I'd recommend getting a program that teaches you to
type.  It's a worthwhile investment of your time if you plan to use
computers to any degree in the future.

There is a very good hint book sold by Arthur Brown Company.  Three levels
of hints as I recall.
 
 
I believe I won the game without killing a knight.  Running seemed to work
better.

The ICD Hosta Adaptor is available here from E.Arthur Brown for about $90 US.
This is the best price i've found on it.  I don't have their catalogue or

     Well, I got the file , unarced it to its 4 .lzh files, but only one
of these will lharc correctly, the others give an sorry, cannot extract,
invalid function number. This happens with both the unix lharc and the
ST lharc I use.   Anyone have the same problem?

A few days ago Hildo Biersma announced a new version of the dungeon game
Omega. This program is now also available in Europe!
 
From his announcement:

No, THIS version of Rufus 1.06 bombs as ACC with TOS 1.04 (1.4), too,
I'm afraid. I don't have an official 1.06 (if there is one) or 1.10

  It MAY be that the files (it's a LZH file right?) are compacted with the
newer LH5 method (so if you're using LHARC060 or LZH11321 or family, it
won't work).  I downloaded the files and believe had the same problem.
Get a copy of LZH201D or family (by this, I mean, LZH 200, etc) - bet you
it will work!

However, Spider V1.4 is now ready and all bugs about
undoing moves seem to have disappeared.
I've modified the scoring rules and that makes the
game a little trickier to pass a 996 pts score...
The docs and entry panel are under reconstruction,
so I'll only send you the game, for the time being.
I'll also send you another game (same style) I wrote
in September and that i've dropped when I've discoverd
Spider... The name is Mariant.
I don't think that I'll upload Spider 1.4 neither
Mariant V1.1 to a.a. due to the poor (null indeed!)
response...

TOS 2.06 is availible for all ST's. You have to add extra hardware, because
the new PROMS are larger. In Germany TOS 2.06 costs 198.--DM (including
hardware and PROMs).
This was also the price for TOS1.04 when it was new (just for the PROMs).

        I think there is a patch around somewhere.  I recently obtained
a magazine with a disk containing a TOS1.4 Double-click fixer patch, but
the disk didn't work.
 
        I'm sure someone out there knows of a patch available to you.

Subject: Unmsa'ing 800K+ files on 1Meg 1Drive system.

Atari Netters,
        I don't know whether this will be of any interest
to anyone or not. But i'm sure that i remember a discussion
about the problems of unmsa'ing large (800K+) files on a
machine with 1Meg and one DS drive. I found that by using
FCOPYIII.PRG with it set to 82 tracks and 10 sectors per
track I could format a PC readable disk large enough to
get the file from my u*ix box to my atari. Once there I
used HRAMDSK2.PRG to create a ram disk of 840K on drive d.
I loaded the msa file into the ram disk, why not! And used
the old MSA.PRG to de'msa it.
 
        I hope this is of use to someone!
