GFA-BASIC Toolkit Volume One
John L.Hutchinson
Taylor Ridge Books
America.
$34.95

This book comes complete with disk of full source codes (50 of them).

The book is aimed at beginner to intermediate programmers who are
familiar with GFA editor and the general principles of programming in
BASIC.

The routines included are for use with Graphics, Video effects
(Bitblit/Bmove), Input/Output, Sound and Music and some miscellaneous
other sources.

The book gives listings of most of the source which as a visual
reference aid is ideal.

Each chapter in this book starts with a contents page followed by
detailed descriptions of the separate routines that deal with similar
topics.

Each routine is also described as to its purpose and use, how to
initialize it, the parameters required, Hints, notes, example usage, and
also reference to similar files.

The source files themselves are heavily commented which is ideal for
learning with.

Overall , a pretty up-to-date, useful and well laid out book which I
myself think is a very good investment for anyone programming with
GFA.

Sources run on the following : ST, Mega-ST, STe , and the TT using ST
screen resolutions as specific TT only features and resolutions are
not supported.

The manual and collection of routines are copyrighted although using
them as individual routines less their documentation, they are not.

I sent off to Taylor Ridge Books for this after seeing it advertised
on the ST ASSEMBLY LANGUAGE WORKSHOP VOLUME 2 disk, by following the
instructions on the disk and with a U.S. dollar draft - the book and
disk arrived back about a month later.

I would recommend this book to anyone who programs in GFA, and roll
on Volume 2.

If anyone wishes further information on the content, they can contact
me at my home address as above.
