Alien vs. Predator Hints (12/94)

CAUTION: This file contains *SPOILERS*. If you haven't already solved
the game, you should only read it if you are really stuck.

Item Locations
==============

- Security-Card #1:

On sublevel 3 near the brig (the starting point of the marine). After
leaving the brig, turn left around the corner. You will find a dead body
   with the security card.

- Security-Card #2:

In the south-east corner of sublevel 3. The doors to this area are jammed,
it is only accessible via airduct 3B.

- Security-Card #3:

In the officers area on sublevel 2, which is also accessible by airduct 3B.

- Security-Card #4:

In the training maze on sublevel 4. When you leave the east elevator,
take the door in front of you and go straight until you reach a wall.
Then turn right, follow the hallway, and turn right again when you have
the choice. The card can be found at the dead end of the hallway.

- Security-Card #5:

On sublevel 5 in the area accessible through the east elevator (in a big
room about half-way between the elevator and the south airlock).

- Security-Card #6:

In the sublevel 4 med-lab. Normally you need security clearance 7 or
higher to enter the med-lab, but you can also get there through
airduct 4C. The other entrance to the airduct is located in the
training maze: Go to sublevel 4 using the east elevator. After
leaving the elevator, turn left around the corner and go through the
door. You enter one of the rooms with doors going to all four
directions. Take the lefthand one. At the next possible place, turn
right and immediately right again. Follow the bends and you will
finally come to the room with the airduct 4C vent. The only other
exit of the airduct leads to the med-lab. The security card can be
found in one of the lab rooms.

- Security-Card #7:

On sublevel 1 in a small single-standing room south of the east elevator.

- Security-Card #8:

In a big room in the north-west corner of the alien ship.

- Security-Card #9:

In the predator ship. After entering the ship through the sublevel 1
airlock, head straight forward as far as possible. Then go left, right
and left again at the next possible place. The card can be found in the
back of the room you enter.

- Security-Card #10:

In the alien ship. The card is located behind one of the cocoons in the
left corner in the back of the queen's lair.

- Shotgun:

At the dead body directly in front of the chamber where you start as the
   Marine.

- Pulse Rifle:

In the jammed area in the south-west corner of sublevel 3, accessible
through airduct 3C. The other entry of the airduct ist located in the
kitchen inside of the canteen. There are also some more pulse rifles
gathered around the station, notably in a small single-standing room
north of the east elevator on sublevel 1, and in the armouries on
sublevels 2 and 4. However, these are not as easy to get as the one
on sublevel 3 (at least not at the beginning of the game when you have
   low security clearance).
   "Bug soup!".

- Flame Thrower

There are two flamethrowers in the sublevel 2 and 4 armouries.
   "I'll tell ya 'bout killing!"

- Smartgun:

In the big room deep inside the predator ship (east area).
   "Rock 'n Roll!"

- Motion Tracker:

On sublevel 5 near the east elevator. After leaving the elevator, turn
right around the corner, then left around the corner at the end of the
hallway. You enter a broad corridor. The motion tracker is in a small
room behind the first door on the right.
   "Run, but you can't hide!"

- Motion-Tracker additional note:

The motion tracker is also a compass. A little arrow at the perimeter
always points to the north ("up" on the computer level schemes).

Other hints
===========

- I cannot find the entrance to the alien ship on sublevel 5.

Sublevel 5 is divided in two areas which are not directly connected. You
must either travel through airduct 5C or take a detour through sublevel 4
to go from one area to the other. The west elevator goes to the area with
the alien ship airlock. This elevator does not travel between sublevels
3 and 4, so you have to go to level 4 with the other one and find the
   west elevator there.

- How to get security card #10 without being killed by the queen.

To get security card #10, you can either kill the queen or just rush into
the lair and get out after taking the card. In the first case, the queen
can be killed with relatively low risk by repeatedly entering the lair,
taking a few shots at the queen and quickly retreating (the queen will
not come out of the lair). But there are two problems with this approach:
At first, you will need a lot of time an ammo. You will probably have to
pause and search for new ammo after some time. Second, the dead queen has
a nasty little suprise for you, when you finally pick up the security
   card :-)

In either case you should take out as much eggs as possible when entering
the lair, or there will soon be a swarm of facehuggers coming after you!

- How can I reach the escape pod in time after setting the self destruct?

The key is to (a) know the path from the elevator to the escape pod on
sublevel 5 really well and to (b) clean up the path before activating
the self destruct, i.e. take out all aliens and eggs in that area. You
won't have much time to deal with angry aliens and facehuggers when
running for your life (although it's a good thrill for experienced
   players).

- How can I kill the queen playing as the Predator?

It's quite easy if you have sufficient energy and health: Simply enter
the lair and start shooting at the queen with the shoulder cannon.
Whenever you run low on energy, press the "heal" button. This approach
will cost you quite some energy, but the queen will die first. Remember
to take out as much eggs as possible before entering the lair.

- What do I have to do to rescue the queen as the Alien?

The force field in which the queen is imprisoned, is generated by
four little read devices which are arranged around the field. The
Alien can destroy these with several strikes of the extending jaw.
Two of the devices can only be reached when standing near the force
field, so you will take some damage before the queen is free. Since
you have to kill some predators before, you will probably need two
or more aliens to accomplish the task, so cocoon some marines near
the airlock of the predator ship (you won't find any marines inside
the predator ship). After having destroyed all four devices, the
   queen will be free.
